Oscar winning Actor
Louis Gossett, Jr. addressed an
eager audience at Second
Arnold Baptist Church on
Thursday August 5, 2010.
Gossett’s heart-to-heart talk
was both encouraging and
uplifting to those in atten
dance.
“My message is that
there is no such thing as
impossible,” he said. “It is up
to us to keep the doors of
opportunity open,” Gossett
added.
Gossett was referring to
the importance of adults being
mentors to the younger gener
ation. “We must prepare them
to go through doors of oppor
tunity,” he declared. “If they
don’t get the right stuff, then
they will get the wrong stuff,”
he noted.
The Emmy Award win

and was later renamed the
National Association of
Black Military Women to
include Black Military

that the sense of community is
not as evident and valued

“We all came from that

America should be today,” he
commented. “Kids today are
not being taught this, and it
worries me,” he added.
NABMW will be hon

Gossett felt that service to
others is the most important
thing an individual can do in
this life. He said it’s not how
much you accumulate, but how
much you give. He also talked
about the need to overcome the
pain of the past, to heal, and to
forgive.

Nutrition, and Food.
She was a charter life

She was a dedicated

the association and strived to
take and spread our message
about the history of Black
military women wherever
and whenever she could.
Two years ago when
Savannah was selected as
the next reunion site, Mrs.
Jordan was very excited and
could not wait to show off
her city.
Unfortunately, Mrs
Jordan died in January of this
year. Jordan was married to
the late Dr. Carl Jordan who
was one of our prominent
surgeons and native of
Savannah.
