to Speak at SSU
Commencement
Larry Ellis
Savannah State
University will hold its 180th
commencement ceremony at
10 a.m., Saturday, May 5,
2012, in Tiger Arena.
Approximately 300 students
will receive undergraduate
and graduate degrees. Larry
Ellis, member of the
University System of Georgia
Board of Regents (USG-
BOR), will be the guest
speaker.
The chief executive offi
cer of Ellis Services and
Solutions Enterprises, LLC,
Ellis served in the U.S.
Army for 35 years before
retiring as a four-star gener
al. Tie commanded units at
every level of the Army dur
ing his career, including the
First Armored Division
while deployed in Bosnia
and Elerzegovina and the
Army Forces Command in
Atlanta in 2001. As the
Army’s deputy chief of staff
for Operations, Ellis over
saw multiyear, multibillion-
dollar budget programs sup
porting national strategic
objectives. His numerous
military awards and honors
include the Defense
Distinguished Service
Medal, the Army
Distinguished Service
Medal, the Combat
Infantryman Badge and the
Bronze Star Medal.

BOR by former Gov. Sonny
Perdue, Ellis joined the
board of directors of Point
Blank Solutions in 2004 and

Savannah. N.E.T. is a suc
cessful company headquar
tered in Woodbridge,
Virginia that was established
in 1995 to provide network
ing and computer support for
both government and com
mercial clients. The
Savannah Office is located at
ThincSavannah, 35 Barnard
Street.
N.E.T.’s portfolio of
services includes website
content management, hard
ware support, consulting
services, call center and
helpdesk support, software
development and system
training. The firm’s list of
clients includes the
Department of
Transportation, Internal
Revenue Service,
Department of the Navy,
Department of Health and
Human Services,
Department of Justice and
the Department of Defense.
Although N.E.T.
intends to seek government
clients from the Savannah
office, it also plans to
aggressively pursue non
governmental clients.
Ronal Butler is the
President and CEO of N.E.T.
He has over twenty years of
experience in program man
agement, computer network
ing, and data telecommunica
tions.
Butler currently serves
on the Executive Committee
of the Board of Trustees of
the Alexandria Symphony
Orchestra. He is a director of
the Northern Virginia Urban

Shabazz Announces Candidacy

announced his candidacy for
Chatham County
Commission District 5
Wednesday April 18 at the
Old Chatham County
Courthouse, 124 Bull St.
Shabazz is a married
father of four who has been
married for over 20 years. He
is a graduate of Savannah
State University and holds a
bachelor’s degree from SSU
in civil engineering. Shabazz
has never held office, but has
been involved in major com
munity issues.
“ I have worked on several
major campaigns and politi
cal issues within the commu
nity; I am always in the fore
front,” Shabazz said
Shabazz is also the
owner of Shabazz Seafood
restaurant and has worked
on several major engineering
projects, culminating in over
20 years of engineering
experience.
Shabazz’s main goals

Association Holds Annual Hall
of Fame Induction Ceremony

Beach High’s Athletic
Association will hold its
Annual Hall of Fame
Induction Ceremony on
Saturday, April 28, 2012.
This year’s banquet will be
held at the Economic
Opportunity Authority’s new
banquet room located at
1120 May St. beginning at 6
p.m. The list of
inductees for the class of
2012 will include Lolisa
Berry-Joyner, Fred
Reynolds, Joe Ward, Misty
Knight-Brown, Brisco Gray
and Water Flowers III.
Citations will be awarded to
Teddy Adams and the Frank
Callen Boys and Girls Club.
Teddy Adams is being
enshrined as a citation
awardee in the Beach High
Athletic Hall of Fame due to
his outstanding and stellar
career and contributions to
music at his Alma Mater but
also to the greater Savannah
community as a local jazz
artist and recording artist. He
is a 1959 graduate of Beach
High and was a member of
the marching Bulldog band
for five years, even partici
pating while a student at
Cuyler Junior High School
because of his outstanding
trombone abilities. He also
was an exceptional musician
in the concert band and
played under three different
band directors, Carl P.
Wright, James R. Drayton
and Leroy Miller, who all
possessed uniquely distinc
tive teaching approaches and
directing styles. Adams was
voted the most valuable
player in the band and served
as student director with the
