place annually on October 24
to address issues as varied as
health and nutrition, hunger,
agricultural policy, animal
welfare, and farm worker
justice. The ultimate goal of
Food Day is to strengthen and
unify the food movement in
order to improve our nation’s
food policies
On Sunday, Octo
ber 28th, the Sunday after the
National Food Day, the City
of Savannah will be treated
to a large outdoor festival at
Daffin Park, located next to
Historic Grayson Stadium on
Victory Drive. The festival is
from 11 am to 6pm and is free
and open to the public, with
live music, food vendors,
dozens of exhibitors, vendors
and free workshops. This fes
tival will be full of activities
for all ages and families, in
cluding your pets!
A family-friendly festival,
done right.
This year’s festival
promises to be even bigger
than 2011 with more food,
more activities, more enter
tainment and plenty more too
see and learn.

Mr. Ragsdale, appointed by
the Mayor and Aldennen to
the Planning Commission in
2007, is a professional land
scape architect and a business
development manager with
Wolverton & Associates.

Ellis Cook, was re
elected Secretary. Mr. Cook,
a real estate agent and former
councilman for the city of
Savannah, was appointed to
the Planning Commission by
the Chatham County Com
mission in 2009.
Tanya Milton was
re-elected Treasurer. Ms.
Milton, Vice President and
Advertising Director with

The Chatham Coun
ty-Savannah Metropolitan
Planning Commission was
created in 1961 pursuant to
legislation enacted by the
Georgia General Assembly
which permits joint city-
county planning commis
sions. The Board consists of
14 members. Six members
are appointed by the Board
ofCommissioners of Cha
tham County and six mem
bers are appointed by the
Mayor and Aldennen ofthe
City of Savannah. The Sa
vannah City Manager and the
Chatham County Manager
serve as ex officio members
ofthe MPC Board. Appointed
members are volunteers, who
serve three year overlapping
tenns without pay.
Polite-Tate Finalist for ACTE’S
Outstanding Teacher in Community
The Association
for Career and Technical
Education (ACTE) has an
nounced Bettina Polite-
Tate, a CTAE Supervisor
with the Savannah-Chatham
County Public School Sys
tem, as the Region II win
ner of ACTE’s Outstanding
Teacher in Community Ser
vice award. Tate is one of
five finalists vying for the
national title of 2013 ACTE
Outstanding Teacher in
Community Service award,
which recognizes teach
ers with significant accom
plishments and outstanding
leadership in programs and
activities that promote com
munity involvement. Tate’s
enthusiasm and dedication
to the marketing program
at Johnson High School
have been evident in the
program’s growth since she
began working at the school
in 2005 when the program
was offering three sections
of marketing principals and

advised a DECA chapter of
14 students. Today, because
of the contributions of Tate,
Johnson High School boasts
three full- time marketing
teachers, a DECA chap
ter with 212 members and
enough marketing courses
supported by student interest
to accommodate the market
ing management, promo
tion, and communications
pathways.
Tate is currently a
CTAE Supervisor in the SC-
CPSS Career Technical Ag
ricultural Education Depart
ment and holds a Bachelor’s
in Business Administration
and a Masters in Public Ad
ministration from Savannah
State University. She also
holds an Education Special
ist Degree in Educational
Leadership from Mercer
University, and is currently
pursuing a Doctoral Degree
in Educational Leadership.
As a graduate of
the Sol C. Johnson High
School, she is a product of
Savannah-Chatham Public
Schools. Her passion for
teaching and commitment
to education in this area
have also brought her the
distinction of being named
the district’s Teacher of the
Year in 2011 where she also
was recognized as a Top 10
Georgia State Teacher of the
Year finalist.
The winner of the
Outstanding Teacher in
Community Service award
will be announced at the
ACTE Awards Banquet, a
dinner and award presenta
tion recognizing the best
CTAE educators in the
country. The event will take
place on Wednesday eve
ning, November 28, 2012 at
CareerTech VISION 2012
in Atlanta, Georgia. For
