Savannah Association for the Blind Hosts Second Annual Art Show Gala and Auction Client, Willie Bell Williams, gets a lesson on using the specially designed voting machine for the blind and visually impaired. Savannah Asso ciation for the Blind, Inc. - “Doing Business As’’ Sa vannah Center for the Blind and Low Vision will present its Second Annual Art Show Gala and Auction December - Friday, December 7, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. at the Charles Morris Cen ter, located at 10 East Broad Street. Several items will be raffled at the event, includ ing a 7-Day Resort Vacation in Orlando, Florida, one mile from Walt Disney World. The unit if fully furnished and in cludes 2 bedrooms, 2 baths with whirlpool tub, Full kitchen, and laundry facili ties. The winner will have a full year to take advantage of this vacation (available Janu ary 6-13, 2013). The silent and live auctions will include artwork donated by several local art ists, including: Sandra Bra nham, Wayne D. Chambers, and Albert Siedl. Savannah Arts Academy and Charles Ellis Montes sori Academy art students have also do nated collections of tactile art created specifically for individuals who are visually impaired. The silent auction will be open throughout the evening consisting local art work, antique items, restau rant gift cards. The live auc tion will take place at the end of the evening. The drawing will take place at the gala and the lucky winner will be an nounced. The Savannah Tribune • Wednesday, November 21, 2012- 11 Certification Classes Offered in West Savannah The City of Savan nah is teaming up with Sa vannah Technical College, Georgia Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Develop ment to help residents get the certifications needed to land careers in three new fields. In addition to Ware housing and Distribution, three new technical certifi cates of credit programs will be available beginning next yearatthe Moses JacksonAd- vancement Center (MJAC), 1410B Richards Street, in the West Savannah neigh borhood. The areas include Culinary Arts, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) train ing, and Medical Front Desk Office Assistant. The City will hold a second information session on the program at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Anyone can come to the information sessions. Those who enroll in the training will need to produce a photo identification card; proof of residency (a utility bill or statement); $20.00 for STC’s admission fee if you have never been a student of Savannah Technical College; a copy of 2011 tax return; and, a copy of your official high school, GED or college transcript in a sealed enve lope. Wc remember him so lone as wc live lie too shall live for lie is now apart of us as wc remember him. Savannah Native Completes U.S. Navy Basic Training On November 14, 2012, Navy Seaman William E. Oleary Cole, son of Fran Oleary of Savannah, Ga., completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Il linois. During the eight- week program, Oleary Cole completed a variety of train ing, which included class room study and practical in struction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and ship board and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations’’. This exercise gives recruits the skills and confi dence they need to succeed in the fleet. “Battle Stations’’ is designed to galvanize the ba sic warrior attributes of sac rifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical applica tion of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Its distinctly ’’Navy” flavor was designed to take into ac count what it means to be a Sailor. Oleary Cole is a 2009 graduate of Greenville High School of Greenville, S. C.
