What do alligators,
orchids, insect-eating plants,
butterflies, songbirds, and
Halloween pennants have in
common? They are all plants
and animals you can see on a
morning’s cycle down Okefe
nokee’s Swamp Island Drive.
And if you don’t know what
a “Halloween pennant” is,
take a guided ride on Satur
day August 31 from 8 a.m.
until noon with a refuge rang
er who can point out the cool
treasures that most people
overlook. The tour will stop
at the Chesser Island Home
stead with an opportunity to
visit the 1927 house owned
President Arthur F.
Kirk, Jr. and the faculty and
staff of Saint Leo Univer

but the tour itself is free.

Georgia Department of Natu
ral Resources and Safe Kids
are organizing the 4th Annual
Kids Fishing and Coastal Wa
ter Safety event to promote
fishing as a family activity
and water safety. The 4th An
nual Kids Fishing and Coast
al Water Safety Event will
be held Saturday, September
28th, 2013 from 8:30am-
12pm. This event will be
held at the Tybee Pier and
pavilion. Kids from ages 5-12

ville-Tompkins Scholarship

Saturday, August 31, 2013,
11:00 am until 5:00 pm on the
campus of Woodville-Tomp-
kins, 151 Coach Joe Turner
Street. Lots of food, fun, and
re-connecting with friends!
Admission is only $5.00 for
everyone age 12 or older.
Proceeds from
Homecoming will provide

sociation of Tatemville held
its monthly meeting on Au
gust 19th at 6:00p.m. The po
lice and fire department were
present. The captain of fire
station #16 urged residents
to please check their smoke
detectors and call 311 if they
need other assistance. Corpo
ral Williams with the police
department stressed safety
and prevention wit the rise
of car buglaries. The cam
paign “LOCK IT OR LOSE
IT” will be communicated on
message boards throughout
the city. The water and sewer
resources department gave a
presentation on “FOG” How
to prevent fats, oils and greas
es from damaging your home
and environment. A hand
out was given to residents to
show how “FOG” can cause
sewer overflows and backups
and what to do to help pre
vent this. Water and sewer
blockages cost the city mon
ey. Ways of disposing FOG
was discussed. Don’t clog
your drains, Bring cooking
oil to 1400 E. President St.

out kits explaining how we
can help conserve water. For

The Tatemville
Sound Barrier is almost com
pleted. Keep an ear open for
the announcement about the
dedication services. Tatem
ville is proud to encourage
the community little league
football team. “The Tatem
ville Cowboys”. The Summer
Lawn Care program will be
starting soon. The Residents
were asked to fill out applica
tions if they wanted the ser
vice. A community workshop
will take place on September
5th -7th at Savannah State
University King-Frazier Stu
dent Center. Volunteers are
needed to attend.
