rememberance and
pay tribute to Mr.
John “Picalo” Sax
on Pierce, a man
who dedicated his
life to civil rights,
justice and equality.
He marched with Dr.
Martin Luther King,
Jr. Hosea Williams, and W.
W. Law. Bring your entire
family, plan your picnic in
the park. Set up your grill
and food table. Picalo Day
was established by the City
Council and the Chatham
County Commission and
sponsored by his Family.

Inc. held its annual Retreat on
Saturday, August 17,2013 for
the chapter Ladies and Top
Teens of America. The Work
shop Facilitator and Speaker
is an award winning Lecturer
and Author, Dr. Bertice Ber
ry. There were 50 Ladies and
Top Teens in attendance.
Dr. Berry makes
over 200 appearances a year
with major corporations and
organizations from all over
the country. She is a best
selling author of books such
as I’m on My Way, Redemp
tion Song and The Ties That
Binds. Her most recent book,
A Year to Wellness and Oth
er Weight Loss Secrets, is a
personal journey of healing
and wellness that resulted
in a weight loss for her 150
pounds.
The TLOD Retreat
Theme was “Coming Togeth
er for a Better Tomorrow”
which Dr. Berry facilitated
with many different activities
for the group. As apart of the
Retreat Ladies and Teens had
an opportunity to meet their
Mentors. Mentoring the Top
Teens is a national project
with TLOD. Savannah’s own
Timothy Green of “Romeo
Line Dancing Productions”
provided the entertainment
for the Retreat. His classes are
located at 2121 East Broad &
38th Street.

Sorority, Incorporated held
its 2013 Leadership Seminar
in Montreal, Canada, July
18-21. The biennially held
conference offers workshop
topics to maximize leader
ship skills and enhance effec
tiveness of sorority members.
The theme for the seminar
was “Leadership and Service:
A Timeless Mission”
3000 sorority members
from across the nation and
the Islands of the Bahamas
were positioned to cultivate
the leader within through di
verse workshops that were
designed to enhance Sorori
ty Program and Procedures,
Timeless Leadership Skill,
Undergraduate Leadership
Development, Certification
Workshops and Health and
Wellness. The attending
members from Gamma Sig
ma Omega were Mrs. Tammy
Barnes Scott, Dr. Henrietta
Gray, keynote speaker for the
Ecumenical Service, Dr. Re
becca R. Cooper, Dr. Clem-
ontine Washington, Dr. Con
nie S. Cooper and Ms. Denise
M. Cooper, Esq.

Howard University in Wash
ington, D. C. For the last 105
years, the sorority has worked
internationally to support ser
vice, scholarship, and sister
hood. Since its chartering in
1943, Gamma Sigma Omega
Chapter has upheld the val

plements the current Global
Leadership through Timeless
Service vision and program
initiatives of Alpha Kappa
