Greet” was held at the Beach
Institute, where this historic
educational institution be
gan. On Saturday morning,
hundreds lined the streets to
watch the All Alumni Parade
proceed to the fairgrounds.
Dr. Ann Levett, Superinten
dent of Savannah Chatham
County Schools, served as
Parade Grand Marshal. Dr.
Pat Harris, former teacher
and Administrator and for
mer Beach High Band Di
rector Lawrence Hutchins
were Co-Marshals. Many of
the graduating classes were
represented at the picnic
held at the fairground. Their
display of Bulldog spirit and
honor was evident in the
many tents, vendors, enter
tainment, food, speakers,
awards and giveaways, com-
radery and love throughout
the full day event.

Ricardo Ochoa’s Tribute To The Legends of
Jazz Violin

ist Ricardo Ochoa has sum
moned a collection of first
class musicians including
pianist Kevin Bales from
Atlanta, GA and bassist Al
exander Berti from Miami,
FL to pay tribute to the leg
ends of Jazz violin. Eddie
South, Stephane Grappelli,
Staff Smith and Joe Venutti
are just a few legends be
hind the compositions and
the narrative of this show.
Music from as early as the
1920’s to contemporary
compositions with a great
variety of styles.
The event will be
held on Sunday, August 20,
2017 from 5 PM - 7 PM at
the Benjamin M. Tucker Pa
vilion at the Club at Savan
nah Harbor, 2 Resort Drive,
Savannah, GA. The Coastal
Jazz Association will also
unveil the 2017 Savannah
Jazz Festival poster at this
concert. CJA Members and
Students with valid IDs are
admitted free. Non-member
tickets are $20 and will be
available at the door or in

2017 marks the
36th Annual Savannah Jazz
Festival, the Lowcountry’s
only entirely free week-long
music festival featuring re
gional and national word-
class jazz. Sponsored by the
City of Savannah Cultural
Affairs Department and oth
ers Including Miner Family
Wines, The Marymor Fam
ily Foundation, and others,
the festival takes place in
venues around Savannah,
culminating with three days
in Savannah’s historic For
syth Park September 17 -
23.
This year’s fea
tured headliners include
jazz legend Wycliff Gor
don, blues superstars Sel-
wyn Birchwood and Victor
Wainwright, intrepid jazz
vocalist Carmen Bradford,
Javon Jackson, and the Pal
metto Latin Jazz Band. A
special treat this year on the
traditional Monday evening
movie night features the
premiere of the Ben Tucker
Documentary on the Savan
nah jazz legend’s life at the
Savannah College of Art and
Design’s historic Lucas The
ater.
Others includ
ing the Eric Jones Quartet,
Randy Napoleon, The Pres
idents, and the Savannah
Jazz Hall of Fame Orches
tra will deliver stunning
performances. All of these
acts will feature regional
greats including Teddy Ad
ams, Howard Paul, Maggie
Evans, Jody Espina, and
Quentin Baxter, who will be
inducted into the Savannah
Jazz Hall of Fame.
The Parris Island
Marine Band and the Fort
Bragg Army Maneuver Cen
ter of Excellence Band will
feature great military per
formances. Mind-blowing
school bands from Univer
sity of North Florida, Geor
gia Southern University,
Armstrong State University,
and the Savannah Arts Acad
emy are also scheduled. The
Savannah State University
Wesleyan Gospel Choir will
deliver the annual serving of
Southern Gospel music.

National Bar Association Holds 92nd Annual Convention
TSU Thurgood Marshall School of Law
The National Bar Association (NBA) held their
Annual Convention and Exhibits July 29-August 4, 2017 in
Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This 92nd Annual Convention
marks the very first to be held abroad.
The Canadian Association of Black Lawyers
(CABL) invited the NBA members to Toronto to experi
ence the multicultural social and professional qualities of
Canada.
The National Bar Association has a commitment
to professional development of its members.
