Mr. Jesse Dent, of Macon, is in town
having a good time with the boys.
The mail from the Warrior route was
delayed yesterday by the high waters.
Mr. Walter Clark, of the southern poli¬
tico of the county, was in town-Sunday,
Mr. J. F. Andrews has two very sick
children. At last accounts they are doing
well.
Mr. H. S. Lee, of the southern portion of
the county, paid us a pleasant call on

The scarcity of guano in the market and
the flourishing oat and wheat crops may
he the salvation of our farmers this year.

What The Floods Bid.
The bridge at Elini church was washed
away aud totally destroyed. The bridge

place was partly washed away. Only
about fifteen feet of the bridge was saved
by being lodged against a tree. Bottom,

is now in a deplorable condition several
inches of the soil being washed off. The

Mr. Ras Hancock lost a fine young mule
by a s‘range disease last Saturday. One
of its eyes, aud the lids, about it,, was red
us blood asd it had some kind of an erup¬
tion on the nose. No one has any idea
what the disease was.

On last Sabbath, after a prolonged ill¬
ness. Mr. Beschut LoSueur yielded lip his
spirit to the O&e who gave it- Mr. Le
Sueur was possessed of atuisual intelligence,
and although he aspired to little yet he
occupied a high place in the esteem of all
who knew him. Ms. LeSucur will be
greatly missed in Knoxville.

Mrs Z. T. Harris, of this place, has a
sewing machine that has done faithful ser¬
vice for fourteen years ; but that is not
the point. The needle is, and it has not
worn out nor broken, but does good work
now. Very few people have ever seer, a
machine needle that was used steadily for
fourteen- years.

From private letters we learn that the
track has been laid to pir.c mountain.
The mountain is just thirty miles above
this place, in Pike county. After the track
has lean laid past the mountain the work
will go on in a hurry.
There are about two miles of rough
grading to bo done between this place and
Meansville,. which the boss of the grading
force says can be completed before the first
of May with the force which he now has.
The report a few daye ago (which few
believed that the track would be laid to
Knoxville within GO days seems to have
hud good foundation. It is not out of the
question to build the road to this place by
the latter part of May.

could not find a single sack in town.

D. Ratteree, a merchant of Chesic-r, had' a
quarrel with the wife 03 Jack Reed;.a col¬
ored man. The woman went before a
trial justice to swear out a peace warrant,
and her husband appeared as a witness.
While in the court room, and without any
provocation, Ratteree drew a pistol and
shot Reed dead. He was Lied for his life
and: the case is just concluded. His plea
was insanity Several years ago a mule
had kicked Ratteree in the bead and a
physician testified that t&e effect of this.
