From several parties who have recently
been to where the track laying force is
at work on the Atlanta & Florida railroad'
wo learned that the iron had been laid to a
little creek near Potatoe creek. By this
time it is likely that the rails have been
laid to the Potatoe creek trestle, The
landslide on Tine mountain has been clean
cd out, and the train will soon cross the
Thomastou branch road.
Our people may as well stand ready to

As we have noticed in your Columns the
news from, almost every other pair of the
county, and as yet have seen nothing from
here, we will endeavor to give the many
friends and readers of the Journal some
knowledge as to what is being done in
our section.
The Journal has a great many warm
friends throughout the southern portion of
the county. All see and feel the uecesity
of a good newspaper in the county, hence
the Journal, meets with a hearty welcome
on every hand
Our farmers, though considerably thrown
buck by the recent heavy ruins, are
about lip with their work', and are now
making preparations to put in their eotten
crops. Aiore corn and loss cotton is, and
should he the cry. The heavy failures in
the western crops last year are likely to
put the prices of corn above the reach of
our avetage farmer, and those whose
cribs are in the habit of running low
would do well to consider this and plant to
fill them as they should he.
Our Sabbath school was organized on
the third Sunday in Alarcli with the names
of about sixty pupils on its roll, We
have a fine opening for a good school, and
in our opinion we will have one as good as
any in the county.
Gradiug on the railroad is nearing com¬
pletion at this point', and our people are
looking forward with much interest and
pleasure to the time when the trains will
start, and the road is put in full operation.

turned the salute with three pistol l alls,

to carry his carcass to t.lrc nearest swamp.
