THE HOXTOLE JOHBHAL
VOLUME I.,
SaudyiPoint Sifiings>
Hog killing is the ordir of the day.
The little daughter of Mr. E. J• Hancock
is very ill.
Some of our fanners are carrying their
cotton to Ruostville. We asked ona gen¬
tleman who bad s ild in Knosvi’e 1 how he
v.as pleased with prices rceived for his
cotton. He replied “Finely, finely. I am
satisfied with the market. ’
Hurrah for.- Knoxville and Crawford!
they are awaking from their Rip Van
Winkle sleep never to he caught napping
again.
Hickory Mrove Bas»j*a»c»5nKs.
Hickory .Grove, Ga. Nov. 20, 1888.
Dear Journal,—I would have
bad something to say before but have been
sick ever since court week, so I ?uf> in hopes
my excuse is a.good one for remaining si¬
lent so long.
We are all nearly through gathering
crops. Cotton has tinned out a little bet
tot than it was .thought it would do.
I am sorry that Knoxvill does not handle
pioreof the cotton from this.section than it
does. Ifc-is our county-site and we as
Crawford citizeris should try to build up
o»r county town in pvteronoe to any other
counties. But ivho is to blame? Has
Knoxville ever offered auy inducement to I
cause the people out here i n the river to
haul their cotton there? One instance will
suffice to show she has not. Take the
mad from the railroad to town and it is
j 1 st about as bad as any piece of public
road in-t-lvt- county. The road from. here
there is a very poor one indeed and ( don’t
lay all the blame on Knoxville, but it is
to their interest to look after these thing's
if they expect for the old town to remain
as Knoxville. Our sister town, Culloden
handles 20 bales of Crawford cotton te>
Knoxville’s oue. Merchants look to tour
interest.
Sugar cane, sorghum, potatoes pea. and
hog crops have turned out well. The coru
crop is poor but ther is a goodly acreage of
grain sown which will help out considera¬
bly if no disaster happen to it.
The marriage season is near at hand tint!
if Madam Rumor is correct, one. of Craw¬
ford’s young widowers will wed one of Up¬
son’s belles shortly and one oi Crawford’s
‘‘old bachelors” will soon crown one of
Catafornia’s most amiable accomplished and
beautiful daughters with orange flowers as
his devoted bride,
Mr Editor why don’t you tell the people
of our county it would bo a great help to
them to the county and to you if all would
subscribe for the Journal. Let every
head of a family* in Crawford take the pa¬
per and I tell you it would not he long be¬
fore old things would become as new.
Will try and send you a list of subscri¬
bers soon. C;
aaw Sams Arrested,
Some weeks ago a lively young mao
from Taylor county, who drove a pair of
Texas ponies, spent some time about this
town in the business of repairing sewing
machines.
His name .was Sam Sams, and he work¬
ed for several in this community. Sams
rented a buggy pole and double harness of
Mr.Jerry McGee, which, according to
agreement, he was to bring back in three
days.. Mr. McGee waited two or three
weeks and the gear was not returned,
whereupon McGee swore, out a warrant
foj Sams’ arrest, and Deputy Sheriff Cul
vej'hcuije and Robert Patterson went to
KNOXVIEUr,; GEORGIA., NOV. 23, 1888
Sams’ Rouse and arrested him. While the
harness was being: got together Sams made
his escape.

Gentlemen*—In 1884 a friend of mine con¬
tracted a terrible case of blood poison, and
at once sought the advise ot the best phy
sicians. After a forur months’ trial, with
a feeling of greatest despondency, he left
Chattantfova for Hot Springs, where he re
mained three months, The treatment
there did not seem to do him any good, and
with a crushed spirit and, with death in i’s
worst form staring hint iu the face he came
home. He saw an advertisement of your
medicine. As his friend I suppled him
with the first few bottles. I was aston
isited at the result. After the third bottle
the sores till disappeared ami his recovery
was rapid. In three months he \ -as hard
at work, and there has been no return of
toe disease. I wi h’wld bis name from
the public but will send it in confidence to
any who write for it. I give this certifi¬
cate cheerfully. D B Davenport,
