Last Saturdry news reached town that
the shanty at Connor’s - .sawmill"in which
the hands, live had been ,plundered by
some?bold robber, and, brad afterward to
conceal the robbery,. The house.was saved
by the hand?,. who , discovered the flapps
before they tnadp, much ..progress. It was
found that .a now suit of good , clothes be¬
longing to one of tho hands had been
'stolen, together vvitk.„qo.m8 other things of
less, value.
Strange to say, the same tiling occurred
again on Tuesday. This time it appeared
to thp man as if a quantity of keros;tie oij
was used, for the shanty, had like to have
been consumed in-a very few, minutes. The
strangest part of the -whole affair is that
the rascals should have lir«d the house a
second time., after knowing that theft
first lobbery had been discovered.

'Xfic Jail.
In these columns mention has,.several
times made of the . superior manner in
which the jail was being built. Probably
a very aroai.1 proportion of the tax pavers
in Crawford county .realize .the trouble and
responsibility the, cemmis-iuers. had upon
them in,planning for the structure, and
it is not likely that the public will accord
to them the, full meed of praise due them
for this example of their superior judgment;
Especially was the ingenuity and me¬
chanical genius of Commissioner Danieily
displayed to ad a tij.e in tho designs and
specificatvonjf, .' which , . . ’ to make this .build
go
ing one of the safest, and at tire same -time
one of the most convenient) in the whole
coup.try. The wonder is that so goou and
strong a prison house could have been
built with the anrount of money used in
the construction of this.
The house is finished, with the exception
of some painting, and the. public nan take
a look throngn at and see whether the
nevyspaper i s cor ret.

Jobu Bloom dfailcd;
In the temporary prison room of the
court house languishes am unbleached
citizen, who, when asked what his
“trimmings”, might be, , answers “John
Bh-om.”
John says he is held up on.account of a
little game of cards which he played in the
3rd district of this, county some time ago.
He is looked nppn as ,an expert, it seems,
for ho says he was playing for one,of his
friends. John’s talents will likely he used,
.
to the benefit of the State . after jtha ■ next
sitting of.,the superior court- .
