In 1823 a mill stone was made in this
county which is now doing active service
in Van's mill with another atone of home
manufacture. At Thomas Hickson's mill
a pair that were made about the same
t'.riie. At the old Stembridge mill in town
•were used up to a year or so ago another
pair of mill rocks which were made in
Crawford county. Tnese stones -have all
been in use ever since they were made,
and arc declared to be as good as the best
in the county. This shows what can be
done with the granite of this county.
Probably as good building granite as can
bo found in America may be found afmost
anywhere in this neighborhood.
We have many natural advantages here
that may never be utilized, hut that the
mineral wealth of Crawford county is
abundant there can be no doubt.
