J. St. Wilson and fifro.
On Monday morning Messrs. J. B. Wil¬
son & Bro. opened their stock at the
pot. We are pleased to note this addition
to the trade of Knoxville. They
opened in one of the largest, and nicest
store buildings in this section.
The Jours Ar, confidently predicts a
large trade for this firm. These
men are popular and well known and
their experience gives them superior ad¬
vantages. Their stock is clean alid fresh
and everything is selected with care.
, We repeat, we are glad to know
this addition to the business of the
BSow tl»e Worts Was Hon e.
Frequent mention has been made in these
columns of the work being done on the
Baptist church When the people all
know of the extent of the repairs on the
building they will wonder where the
money came from to pay for the improve¬
ment.
The fact is Misses Eddie Jarrett ami
FlorenceWright canvassed the country and
raised a good deal of money. ’They did
remarkably .welt- They unremittingly la¬
bored aqd plead for aid in, the interest
the work,, and accomplished more than al¬
most any two voting ladies the writer has
ever known tinder similar, circumstances.
As a tribute to their unselfish zeal and
tireless energy Rev. A,.C, ;We!lons has had
a corner-stone Itffd bearing the, yvoi'ds:
Eddie and Florence. It is a gracefuleom
pliment to them. * ».
But the money raised tvas not by any
means sufficient to pay fur ail the im¬
provements, hut the work went on. Mr.
Wellons is a carpenter. lie determined
to put the church in thorough repair..
The money to hire hands was not forth¬
coming,, so exertions, he .set, to work and by his own
physical and skill executed a
large share of the work- He has worked
for about two months steadily, and .used
about $35 of his own money in buying
material and in paying bands, and this
without any promise of any sort that he
would be reimbursed for bis outlay of
timo, labor and money. The house, is an
ornament to the town and a monument
the unrelenting energy of Mt. Wei ons.'
This community should make up enough
money to repay him. He is a poor m a a
and cannot, offord to give hi work and
money ,Ho must he compensated, or the
community will remain iu disgrace on ac¬
count of it- inappreciation.
