Last Thursday Ralph and
I took advantage of The
Macon-Bibb County Con
vention and Visitors
Bureau's free offer to visit
Macon attractions. First we
saw a 15-minute preview of
The Pirates of Penzance
production at Theatre
Macon. Terrific entertain
ment at a very nice down
town theater.
Then it was on to the
Georgia Sports Hall of Fame
where we almost stepped on
Coach Herb St. John and
his good friends Johnnie
and Mary Foreman. Their
contributions to the hall
substantiated > their
engraved bricks in the
walkway at the sports hall’s
main entrance.
Inside on the entry wall
Coach St. John is listed as a
member of the Authority of
the Georgia Sports Hall of
Fame since its inception.
Then we found Coach Eric
Staples' 1957 induction into
the Georgia Prep Sports

VISITING COAST Claire Beckham recently visited
with Becky Branch DeLoach in Hinesville and toured in
Savannah and Beaufort, S.C. She returned with a photo
and news of Becky’s granddaughter, Callie Grace
Branch. Callie is the daughter of Geoffrey and Aimee
Branch and was diagnosed with neuroblastoma (a
malignant tumor found in children) last November at
age 10 1/2 months. After treatments of chemotherapy
and radiation she is now in remission. Callie and her
family would like to thank friends in Perry for their
prayers, cards and calls. Please continue to pray for Cal
lie as she has months of tests ahead checking on her
progress. Geoffrey Branch (left) and daughter Callie are
the son and granddaughter of Becky and the late Bobby
Branch, former editor of the Houston Home Journal.

Hall ofHFame.
Founded in 1956, it was
dedicated to the state's
great high school sports fig
ures, both players and
coaches. In 1963 it was
expanded into the Georgia
Sports Hall of Fame to
encompass high school, col
lege, amateur and profes
sional sports.
At the Georgia Music Hall
of Fame I found these words
about a Perry High school
mate: “In 1963 Bobby
Smith, with King Records,
built the first real recording
studio in Macon, Macon
Recording Studio, a division
of King Records at the old
Georgian Hotel on Mulberry
St. His first engineer was
Dave Harrison from Perry,
Ga. Dave was an exception
ally talented engineer. Dave,
later in the 1970’5, moved
to Nashville and set up his
own business building the
Harrison recording board.
Dave's boards/consoles
became the standard for
recording boards in the
1970’s and 1980'5."
Virginia Coleman recalls,
“Ever since he was a little
boy David tinkered with
electrical things. He once
wired up an old telephone
to play a shock trick on me
and I learned to watch out
for him! He was a good kid,
kind and good to many peo
ple."
A lew years ago David
suffered from a tumor on
his brain that eventually led
to his death. His sister
Emily lives out west.
A couple of weeks ago
Virginia Coleman took a
tumble at her home and
broke her ankle. Now with a
cast above her knee she’s
mending nicely.

ON A CRUISE Ron and Liz Faucon

long enough Jor Liz to celebrate her 64th
birthday, they took off again with their
entire family and the Vandergrifts on a
Big Red Boat cruise to the Bahamas. Nas
sau for shopping and sightseeing and the
private island of Salt Cay for swimming,

A huge thank you to the
officers who managed the
traffic into and out of the
festivities of the fabulous
Fourth. We the public are
always so anxious to get
there and then so anxious
to leave, and it’s the seri

direct us safely.
The U.S. Air Force

Mother's sister was her
