Sarah Cannon
Sarah Cannon, 99, of
Perry died July 17. Services
were held July 25 at New
Hope Baptist Church, with
burial in Rest Haven Ceme
tery.
Mrs. Cannon was a mem
ber of New Hope Baptist
Church.
Survivors include her sis
ter-in-law. Margaret Duffle
of Fort Valley; nephews and
nieces. Louis Blackmon.

Cities, county to meet on consolidation of services plan

Mayor Jim Worrall in
regard to Houston County’s
H 8489 plan summed up
the feelings of many this
week
According to County
Commission Chairman J.
Sherrill Stafford, plans are
now under way for a profes
sional facilitator from the
Carl Vinson Institute of
Government at the Univer
sity of Georgia to sit down
with city and county lead-

can seat up to 800 people
for a meal, according to
Hagan.
During their week in
Perry members of the
church will keep a busy
schedule, rising for a 7:30
a.m. sendee and then hold
ing services at mid-morning
and mid-afternoon, as well
as in the evening.
Many members, both
male and. female, both
ordained and laypersons
will preach and lead group
singing and worship ser
vices. There are also youth
services, and a daily chil
dren’s program with crafts,
music and Bible lessons.
While some employees
are hired to cook meals, dif
ferent churches at the
encampment take respon
sibility for serving the
meals and providing
desserts, Hagan explained.

at his home on July 26.

Mr. Cranshaw was a
native of Atlanta. He was a

in Warner Robins, with bur

Mr. Winchester was
retired from Robins Air
Force Base and was an
army veteran of World War
11. He was a member of
Masonic Tyrian Lodge
F&AM #ll, Scottish Rite
32nd Degree, A 1 Sihah
Shrine Temple, Moose
Lodge and Moose Boat
Club. He was a member of
Second Baptist Church.

at meeting a demand by
Walker that an indepen
dent party study the issues
of double taxation in Hous
ton County.
Stafford said that the
failure of the county’s rep
resentatives to notify the
mayors of Centerville and
Perry was “a regrettable
oversight.” that came about
when the Tom McMichael
and Larry Thomson, the
two Commissioners in
charge of the discussions,
each thought that the other
had called the mayors.
Worrall of Perry said that
representatives of Perry
City Government “haven’t
been to meetings (on
H 8489) for weeks," and
added that he objected to
idea of spending taxpayers'
money on the out-of-town
experts, but said “We’re not
going to jeopardize state
rnnding over these objec
tions.”
