1999 Accounting
drive during the month of June. The
committee, with approval from the
Board of Directors, appointed a staff
member to act as a Membership
Account Representative to recruit new
members throughout the year. The
Chamber of Commerce gained 53
new members in 1999.
Membership Benefits The
Chamber of Commerce continued an
exciting new benefit for members in
1999. Members can now provide
group health insurance to their
employees by participating in
Membercare Alliance! of Perry, which
provides group health through Blue
Cross Blue Shield, and it is adminis
tered by your local chamber member
Insurance agents. Businesses can
save 3% -5% off the cost of their
group health insurance. Currently, 17
Chamber members are taking advan
tage of this program
The Chamber of Commerce contin
ues to improve its incentive package
for new members which includes free
advertising and supplies totaling more
than SSOO. These incentives are pro
vided by existing chamber members:
Peachstate Cable, W.D Sullivan &
Co., Carroll Printing, The Houston
Home-Journal, The Macon Telegraph,
The Town Crier and The Daily Sun.
Ribbon Cuttings/Ground Breakings
- The Chamber of Commerce hosted
18 ribbon cuttings and two ground
breakings in 1999.

TECHNICAL
Chamber sponsored five Good Morning
Perry Breakfasts, which are offered free
of charge to all Chamber members.
Chick-fil-A provided breakfast and the
Georgia National Fairgrounds and
Agricenter provided the facility for all of
these events in 1999.
Business After Hours- The following
businesses sponsored very successful
events in 1999: Sun Trust Bank, Macon
College and Houston Lake Country
Club again were cosponsors of our
Joint Business After Hours, which is
held with the Warner Robins Chamber.
Secretary's Day Luncheon- One of
our most popular events, the Chamber
had over 125 persons in attendance at
the 1999 Luncheon, held at Houston
Lake Country Club.
Business Development
Committee
Chairperson: Colton Sexton, Davis
Company, Inc.
Purpose: To support activities of the
Houston County Development
Authority and the Perry Economic
Development Commission and
respond to needs of existing industry
1999 Projects:
Development Tours/Dinners
Representatives from the Chamber of
Commerce attended Developer
Dinners and Tours hosted by the
Houston County Development
Authority in the spring and fall. State
developers tour our existing industry
and infrastructure. The goal is to

Existing Industry - The Perry and
Warner Robins Chambers of Commerce
and the Houston County Development
Authority hosted the annual Established
Industry Appreciation Day November
2nd at Houston Lake Country Club. The
event brings industry, government, and
chamber leaders together for a day of
networking, fellowship and fun. Over 110
leaders participated in this year's event
This year, the Perry Area Chamber
was proud to sponsor 18 Ribbon
Cuttings for new businesses and two
Ground Breakings. In January, Cagle’s
announced the purchase and a S4O mil
lion dollar renovation plan tor the former
Pabst Brewery facility. Diversified
Machining Services moved into their
new multi-million dollar facility in the
Perry Industrial Park. Tolleson Lumber
completed major expansions at their
Perry and Preston Mills over the sum
mer. Frito-Lay underwent their third
major expansion of the decade this
past year and added several new prod
ucts to their manufacturing line, bring
ing total plant employment up to over
1200 Both Douglas Asphalt Company
and Rotondo-Weirich built new facilities
in the Perry Industrial Park in 1999. The
Concrete Company has recently pur
chased land in the Perry Industrial park
as well to construct a new manufactur
ing plant here in Perry. Wal-Mart built a
new Super store here in Perry, which
spurred additional commercial growth
on Sam Nunn Blvd.
Education Committee
Chairperson: Mary Jane Kinnas,
Houston Healthcare Complex
Purpose: Promote and enhance the
quality of Perry’ and Houston County’s
educational opportunities.
1999 Projects:
Middle Georgia Technical Institute
GOAL Program (Governor’s
Occupational Award for Leadership) -
The committee provided a judge to
MGT to select the area winner, who
advances to state competition. The
committee also donates $250 to help
sponsor the program.
STAR Student/Teacher - We
cosponsored the local level of this
state program with the Warner Robins
Chamber of Commerce in February.
Our local winner, Frances Chen won
the District Competition and went to
the State STAR Student Awards in
April. The Chambers presented SSOO
savings bonds to all of the STAR stu
dents and teachers. The finalists and
winners also received gifts and prod
uct certificates from area businesses.
Education Appreciation Events -
the committee held an appreciation
dinner for the Houston County Board
of Education, the Westfield School’s
Board of Directors, Macon State
College, Middle Georgia Technical
Institute and Ft. Valley State University
