Primary School entertained
the board members and
guests with a musical skit
about how to find your place
in the world.
Special guests included
the Perry Middle School girls
basketball team which won
the Houston County Cham
pionship for 1998-1999 and
1999-2000 seasons and the
Warner Robins High School
basketball team which fin
ished the 1999-2000 season
as state runners up.

received the Prudential Spir
it of the Community Award.

medallion for starting a pro
gram called “The Kid's
Kitchen."
The program is run by 8-
10 year olds who want to
make a difference and help
the needy. According to
Arnold the idea for the pro
gram was born when Wool
ery was in the second grade.
She saw a commercial that
made her ask what happens
to the free lunch students
during the summer.
Because she cared
enough the program was
started and has been a
major success. Woolery who
just turned 12 is at retiring
age now and is looking for a
successor. According to
Arnold she has agreed to
stay on until a successor is
found.
New Business included:
V The adoption of a policy
to approve a code of ethics
for the members of the
Board of Education which
includes a list of 15 ethical
and conscientious rules was
approved.
\ The guidelines for who
will take the Houston Coun
ty Georgia High School
Graduation Test were
approved.
\ The request for the
approval of the Houston
County after school program
handbook, which provides
guidelines for managing the
program was approved.
\ Participation in a pro
gram of Early Intervention
Protocol in cooperation with
both the Juvenile Court
Judge and the Board of
Education attorney which
would assist agencies and
families to work together
without the risk of the stu
dent being involved with the
Juvenile Court System.
V Approval of the Make Up
Day for the school day

ers will be left to the school's
principal documentation.
Teachers may choose from
several alternatives of how
to make up the day of which

A routine road block on
the morning of March 13
turned into a near tragedy
for both motorists and state
patrol officers, when a truck
with defective brakes came
perilously close to crashing
into the area where cars
were stopped for a drivers'
license check.
Instead, the truck driver.
Randy Gilbert. 46, of Byron,
managed to swerve his truck
away from the center of the
highway and struck an
unmanned patrol car .
At the scene of the accident,
which took place near Mossy
Creek Bridge on U.S.. 41.
Gilbert said simply that he was

the accident. She was wait
ing in line in the south
bound lane with other dri
vers at the time that Gilbert,
who was also southbound,
drove his truck over a near
by hill, where the roadblock
first became visible, and was
unable to stop the truck on
the downhill grade.
“I could see him coming in
my rear view mirror," a
shaken Geary said, "He did
the best he could."
