March 31 -April 1: Softball
Tournament - A highlight of
the Dogwood Festival will be
the Adult Men’s and
Women’s Class C and D
USSSA softball tournament
to be held
March 31
through
April 1 at
Rozar
Park. The
registra
tion dead
line is
March 28
or until full. The entry fee for
each team Is $l5O, plus S2O
sanction fee. Each team will
provide one new ball per
game. Winning teams will be
awarded trophies. For more

March 31: The Artist,
Mark Ballard.- Ballard will
give a cooking presentation
at Impressions on Carroll
Street, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
He will also sign his new

April 1: 12th Annual 5K
Run/Walk/Skate and One
Mile Health Walk. - Spon
sored by the Perry Hospital,
this event will begin at 8:30
a.m., on the courthouse
lawn, comer of Carroll and
Ball streets. Pre-registration
is $lO, and Race Day regis
tration is sl2.
Numerous awards will be
given, and T-shirts are pro
vided for the first 200

lage shooting range will be

Stand. Flurry Trap and Wob
ble Trap.

team, and the field is limited

Whether your idea of fun
is running a race, listening
to jazz in a live concert or
having your photo taken
with the Easter Bunny,
your chances of finding
something fun to do at
Perry’s annual city-wide
spring celebration are very
good.
The 12th Annual Dog
wood Festival is almost
here, and although some
events will begin a little ear
lier, and others will continue
into April 2, the big day is
April 1.
That’s the day that things
will get going in downtown
Perry with a big Kiwanis
sponsored pancake break
fast starting at 7 a.m., and
the 12th annual 5K run
planned by the Perry Hospi
tal, starting at B:3Cha.m.
Downtown streets will be
lined with arts and crafts
booths. TheWewßWlte pony
rides, a moon walk, a rock
climb, train rides and Radio
Disney kids game!* on the
Courthouse lawn and Ball
and Carroll Streets, and at
11 a.m., the First Baptist
Church of Perry Puppet
Ministry will present a pup
pet show.
According to Donna Long,
a number of performers
have been lined up for the
entertainment stage, which
will be between Ball and
Carroll Streets. On the
schedule are Jim Gray,
Allesyn Vandersall, the
Southern Flare doggers, a
Taekwondo demonstration,
Beth Bailey, Robin Thomp
son, Angela Pope, Deryl
Thomas-Holmes. Dalton
Dobbs, the Perry High Steel
Band, the Farm City Flat
Footers, Classic Creation
Cloggers and “Glitter Me
18."
Music lovers can also
enjoy a free live jazz concert
by the Afro-Jazzet, at the
Perry Players theatre at 909

Kinnas leaving Chamber for career in investments

When the Perry Dogwood
Festival is over, and the
downtown cleanup is com
pleted, Chris Kinnas will be
taking on another big chal
lenge: starting a brand new
career.
Kinnas who has directed
the Perry Area Chamber of
Commerce office since Jan.
1, 1988, will leave the world
of promotion, public meet
ings, parades and grand
openings behind and start
training to become a stock
broker for Edward Jones
Investments.
While he's getting into a
field that has always fasci
nated him. the 32-year-old
University of Georgia gradu
ate knows that there are
things he’ll miss about the
Job he’s leaving.

FOR ONCE For once, the Dogwoods are blooming
near their peak during the annual Dogwood Festival.
Growing without, weather problems all winter, the Dog
woods opened a Jew days ago and now are in peak
appearance.
Dogwood queens for 2000 selected

A new Dogwood Queen court was
crowned on March 24 and 25 at Perry
High School during the annual Dog
wood pageants.
The Dogwood Queens reign over the
Dogwood festivities and make many
public appearances during the year for
the City of Perry.
The new queens include: Miss Dog
wood Heather Whiddon, the 17 year
old daughter of Pat and Nancy Whiddon:
Teen Miss Dogwood Ashley Whiddon.
the 15-year-old daughter of Pat and
Nancy Whiddon: and Pre-Teen Miss
Dogwood - Sagen Woolery, the 12-year
old daughter of Alan and Pam Woolery.

minors is no small
offense and Houston
County Law enforce
ment is cracking the
whip on those who
think that it is.
Locally nine people
were charged with ille
gally selling alcohol and
tobacco to minors dur
ing a recent investiga
tion.
According to police
reports the Perry Police
Department. Houston
County Sheriffs Office,
Warner Robins Police
Department and Tony
Dickerson of the Geor
gia Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco and Firearms
made random visits to
20 stores county wide.
