City council issues 60-day moratorium on sale of sparklers, now legal in Ga.

The Perry City Council has hand
ed down a 60-day ban on the sale of
all fireworks within city limits,
including sparklers.

rodeo finals begin today at
Reaves Arena.

Not all of our children are being
taught only to answer the questions
at the end-of-the-year tests.
Some are being taught to be imag
inative and creative.
Some of those have recently
brought a tremendous honor back to
Matt Arthur Elementary School in
Kathleen.
An Odyssey of the Mind team
from Matt Arthur recently compet
ed in the World Finals in Colorado,
and came home with a fourth-place
finish out of 41 teams from all over
the world. The team from Matt
Arthur consisted of Kasey
Lunceford, Alisha Arora, Zack
Kinsley, Mary-Ivey Pool, Chase
Quimby, Benjamin Toland and
Janie-Elyse Hanson. Their coaches
were Diane and Michael Kinsley,
and their faculty sponsor was Karen
Harkins.
The Matt Arthur team advanced
to the finals with a win over 50
teams at the state level and 52
teams at the regional level.
The task facing the Matt Arthur
team at the world competition was
to create a skit involving dream
sequence featuring a monster. The
monster must do at least five dis
tinctive things, three of which are
designated by the judges and two by

Slack is the overflow of
rodeo competitors who did
not draw a slot in the main
competition. Slack precedes
Friday and Saturday night

Richard Shane Harrell
was caught Tuesday night
after a second day on the
run from law enforcement.
About 6:30 p.m. Tuesday,
deputies caught him “in a
grain field about 250 yards
from where he ran in,” said
Houston County Sheriffs

Harrell, 28, of
Hawkinsville, was apparent
ly lying in a swampy area,
trying to avoid detection
