Premarital counseling knocks
$35 oft marriage application

Thanks to the Georgia
General Assembly, premari
tal counseling will save mar
riage license applicants $35.
According to the Probate
Court Office, the application
fee will go up as of July 1,
2005, from $lO to $35,
unless the couple has com
pleted a qualified premarital
education program, in which
case the fee is waived.
Therefore, according to
Probate Judge Janice
Spires, there will be two sets
of fees for marriage license
applicants.

ing responsibilities, and
extended family roles.

premarital education, can
perform the program.
To get the reduced fee,
applicants must provider
Probate Court with a signed
and dated certificate of com
pletion of a qualified pro
gram. The court has the
form for applicants to get
signed.
