Warner Robins National League player Connor Thomas and the rest of his 13-and-under
All-Star teammates warm up prior to their game Saturday at Simpson Park during the
USSSA state tournament hosted by the WRNL this past weekend. Stay tuned as we try
to provide results in Wednesday's HHJ.
MEET
From page 11A
backstroke on Saturday got
the room.
“I have a room, but Reva’s
is bigger,” Rachel said.
“Actually, she has my bed
and I want it back.”
For Reva, challenges are
nothing new.
“I was trying to break a
minute in the 100 free style,
and I couldn’t do it,” Sundry
said. “(Warner Robins
Aquanauts) coach (James)
Parker kept after me, but I
kept missing the time.”
Then at the Georgia Park
and Recreation district meet
in 2003, Sundry just missed
it with a 1:13 time.
“I’d spent the year trying
to drop below a minute and
then at the state meet two
weeks later, I swam a 59.52,”
Sundry said. “I remem
ber walking to the scoring
table, looking at the board
and afraid I’d read it wrong.
When they told me my time,
that was something.”
Sundry has been swim
ming for six years.
“It was something I’d
always begged my parents
to let me do,” she said.
“Swimming is a great sport.
You meet great people. It’s
a year-round sport, and you
get to be in the water, and
that’s what I love about
swimming.”
Sundry said that swim
ming has taught her what it
takes to be successful.
“You have to commit your
self to it,” she said. “You
have to make the effort. You
don’t do it half way because
you won’t be happy doing
anything half way.”
Academically, Sundry grad
uated with a 3.9 grade point
average and was eighth in
her class.
She was president of the
Beta Club and was a member
of the Math Club and the
Junior Classical League, and

Reva Sundry competes in the 200-meter backstroke
Saturday on Robins Air Force Base.
she took five AP classes.
“Those were great fun,”
Sundry said.
Sundry competed in the
100 free style, 200 free style
and 200 backstroke.
“The 200 free was one of
the things (Parker) drilled,”
she said. “It seems like that
was all we did the whole win
ter. I hated it then, but I like
it now.”
Sundry approaches life
with great humor. It could be
from her name.
“My mother got the name
from a character on “Guiding
Light,”’ Sundry said of her
first name. “She’s the one
who died 10 times and always
comes back. She’s married
three times to the same hus
band. Mom just liked the
name.”

As far as the bet, Rachel is
in a different age group and
swam her 200 backstroke
first. She took 20 seconds off
of her best time, finishing at
2:50.81. That was 11 seconds
faster than Reva’s best time.
Like her television name
sake, however, Reva came
back. She reached the half
way point at 1:20, and fin
ished with a 2:49.54, 1.27
seconds faster than Rachel.
Rachel will get her bed
back, but the room stays
with Reva.
“I want my daughter
(Reva) to know she still has
a home for at least the next
four years while she’s in col
lege,” said Tammy Sundry,
the girls’ mother. “I want her
to know she has someplace to
come back to.”
