Demonettes having very good basketball summer
ByJOESERSEY
HHJ Sports Writer
Warner Robins’ girls
basketball team has had
a very good summer said
head coach Tom Mobley.
“We started out at the
Northside camp (in early
June) 5-1,” he said. “We
lost to West Laurens. We
played back-to-back games
and were missing Cheri
White, who was taking the
SAT.”
The Demonettes also just
returned from a weekend
excursion to a team camp
at Auburn University
where they went 9-1 and
won the camp title.
In the process, Mobley
said the team beat two
state champions in Ramsay
which won the Alabama

Stratford, which won
the Georgia Independent
Schools Association 3A
championship.
“We beat McEachern
which went to the final
four in Georgia 4A last
year,” Mobley said.
Warner Robins also
defeated Mundy’s Mill,
which was 9-0 coming into
its game against the local
squad.
June has also been a
good month for the fact
Drahcir Ross, who missed
most of last season due
to ankle and leg injuries,
returned and played in all
16 of the games to date.
He is also seeing improve

With Symone Wilkerson,
C.C. Jackson, Ross, White
and Maine, Mobley has six
players he said can start.
But he has more.
“Lekeisha Colbert is
much improved,” Mobley
said. “She’s a freshman.
And sophomore Erin Burks
also did well.”
Mobley is excited because
now he has speed to go
with size and said it has
given him the option to be
more flexible.
Defensively, Kyanne
Holland has also played
well enough to get noticed,
he said.
“Holland played real
well defensively,” Mobley
said. “She played a lot of

There was
the devil to
pay Sunday
I think I am going
to stop watching
sports.
It’s getting to be too
dang disturbing.
I was ready to sit down
Sunday to a big afternoon
of sybaritic sports view
ing. I had run the wife
out of the house and was
looking forward to a few
uninterrupted hours of
belching, cheering and
scratching.
Woe to me!
First off the Formula
1 United States Grand
Prix imploded. I know
you all do not follow these
things, but it has been on
most of the sports pages.
F-l has two tire suppli
ers, Bridgestone and the
French Surrender Tire
Company, better known
as Michelin.
Michelin decided at the
last minute that its tires
would not be safe at Indy
and asked F-1 to bail them
out. F-l gave them the
bird and said it was their
responsibility to bring a
safe car.
The Michelin runners -
14 and the 20 cars on the
grid - whined and moaned
and refused to race. Fans
got to see six cars duke it
out for 70-something laps,
and Michael Schumacher
won his first race of the
season.
Not very entertaining.
Then I had the NASCAR
race to fall back on but
Jeffy fell off the pace early
and that killed my view
ing interest in the event.
Next Tennessee was
playing an elimination
game in the NCAA College
World Series. They start
ed out well but then got
eliminated. Major bum
mer dude.
Did I forget to mention
that Tennessee had teams
in both the baseball and
softball World Series?
I guess not.
My final fail-back posi
tion was the final round
of the U.S. Open. I usually
do not watch golf but I
love these all-day cover
ages of the majors.

Playing on a team gives them
