Gerardo A. Pollock is a
member of the 48th Brigade
Combat Team which recent
ly participated in one of the
most realistic scenarios
offered by the U.S. Army at
the National Training
Center (NTC), Fort Irwin,
Calif. The Georgia National
Guard soldier is a member
of the 148th Forward
Support Battalion with
units based in Dublin,
Forsyth and Hinesville.
The NTC, located in
southern California in the
Mojave Desert, is the pre
mier combat training center
for desert warfare. Its
rugged terrain and environ
ment provide a realistic and
grueling test for troops of
the 48th Brigade Combat
Team in preparation for
deployments to Iraq.
Soldiers honed their
warfighting skills through
force-on-force simulated
combat scenarios in the tac
tical environment.
The 48th' Brigade Combat
Team, headquartered in
Macon, is composed of 31
units in Georgia and six
units from other states with
a combined total strength of
more than 4,000 soldiers.
Pollock, a healthcare spe
cialist, is the son of Maria M.
Pollock of Rural Route 3,
Hawkinsville.
He graduated in 1991
from Hawkinsville High
School, and received an
associate degree in 2000
from Middle Georgia
College, Cochran.
Ryan G. Taylor
Army Pfc. Ryan G. Taylor
has graduated from the
Network Switching Systems
Operator-Maintainer
Advanced Individual
Training course at Fort
Gordon, Augusta.
The course is designed to
train the soldier to install,
operate, and perform sys
tems maintenance on large
and small electronic switch
es; system control centers;
node management facilities;
associated multiplexing and
combat net radio interface
equipment; short range line
of sight radio systems; com
munications security
devices, and other equip
ment associated with net
work switching operations.
He is the son of Steven A.
and Joann K. Taylor of
Kathleen.
Taylor is a 2004 graduate
of Youth Challenge
Academy, Fort Gordon.
Grady Vance

Brian G. Willard
Army Pvt. Brian C.
Willard has graduated from
the self-propelled field
artillery systems mechanic
advanced individual train
ing course at Aberdeen
Proving Ground, Aberdeen,
Md.
The soldier learned to
perform unit maintenance
and recovery on all self-pro
pelled field artillery cannon
weapon systems, including
the automotive systems and
components, self-propelled
howitzers, and the 113 fami
ly of vehicles. Additional
instruction included how to
maintain diesel power
plants/packs, compression
ignition engine fuel systems,
compression ignition air
induction systems, and
track vehicle exhaust sys
tems, electrical systems, and
transmission assemblies.
He is the son of Renea K.
Wyers of Perry, and nephew
of Bobby E. Willard of
Sophia, N.C.
The private is a 2002 grad
uate of Perry High School.
Jason D. Bennett
Marine Corps Cpl. Jason
D. Bennett, son of Terry A.
Bergeron of Warner Robins,
and more than 2,100
Marines and Sailors
assigned to the 26th Marine
Expeditionary Unit (MEU)
are in the middle of a sched
uled deployment with the
Kearsarge Expeditionary
Strike Group to the
Mediterranean Sea in sup
port of the Global War on
Terrorism.
During the deployment
Bennett’s unit participated
in a number of exercises
including Eagle Resolve
2005, a joint exercise with
the Israeli Defense Force, a
one-day exercise in Djibouti
in support of Combined
Joint Task Force Horn of
Africa, and a one-month
live-fire exercise at Udairi
Range, Kuwait. The MEU
also participated in commu
nity outreach projects in
Malta, Italy and Bahrain.
Bennett’s unit is an expe
ditionary intervention force
with the ability to rapidly
organize for combat opera
tions in virtually any envi
ronment.
MEUs are built around a
reinforced infantry battal
ion, a combat service sup
port element, a reinforced
helicopter squadron and a
command element.
With its complement of
fully integrated air and
ground forces, Bennett’s
unit is ready to conduct real
world operations including
amphibious, heliborne and
boat raids, tactical recovery
of aircraft and personnel,
noncombatant evacuation
operations and humanitari
an assistance operations.
Bennett is a 1999 gradu
ate of Warner Robins High
School.
Charles N. Cole
Air National Guard
Airman Ist Class Charles N.
Cole has graduated from
basic military training at
Lackland Air Force Base,
San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of
training, the airman studied
the Air Force mission,
organization, and military
customs and courtesies; per
formed drill and ceremony
marches, and received phys
ical training, rifle marks
manship, field training exer
cises, and special training in
human relations.
In addition, airmen who
complete basic training earn
credits toward an associate
degree through the
Community College of the
Air Force.
Cole is the son of Charlie
