Special to the HHJ
For farmers looking to

Fort Valley State

will present “Introduction
to Small-Scale Recirculating
Aquaculture Systems” on
Friday at the C.W. Pettigrew
Farm and Community Life
Center on the FVSU cam
pus.
“Recirculating aquacul
ture systems are becoming
increasingly important
because they allow farmers
to diversify their farm pro
duction,” said Dr. Patricia
Duncan, FVSU extension
aquaculture specialist and
workshop presenter.
“Traditional aquaculture
requires large areas of land
and harvest occur only once
a season. With recirculating

Duncan points out that
recirculating aquaculture
systems don’t limit aquacul
ture to rural settings.
“Because of the small
space required for recircu
lating aquaculture systems,
you don’t have to be out in
the country,” she said. “You
can be an urban farmer.”
The workshop will be held
