WRPD puts on GREAT camp
By RAY UGHTNER
HHJ Staff Writer
The Warner Robins Police
Department’s Gang
Resistance, Education and
Training Camp is about
making a connection
between students and
police.
“Sometimes it doesn’t
look like we’re connecting,
because they’re with their
buddies cutting up,” said
Steve Warmack, the
WRPD’s GREAT officer.
“But I’ve had kids come
back and said they remem

May 18, 2003.
“I’d like to know if the courts were
required to tell the community they
would put him in a public high
school, if they would have done it,”
Poss said. “I don’t know how many
others there are in our schools.”

Warmack talked to stu

Parents may be surprised to learn
that a child molester attends Perry
High School. And while it’s possible
that the boy may not return to Perry
High this fall because of a recent
arrest (for violation of the terms of
his probation), the question remains
whether parents should be notified
at the hospital.
The two-week camp
included speakers from the
police department, HODAC
and Student Crimestoppers
on the effects of drugs,
gangs, and the importance
of communication and good
decision-making.
“If you have a problem,
come talk,” said Warmack.
“We can’t take care of a
problem if we don’t know
about it.”

Houston County will see
21 more roads repaved
thanks to another LARP
award.
The state Department of
Transportation’s Local
Assistance Road Program
will resurface 11.95 miles on
various roads. GDOT
Commissioner Harold
Linnenkohl recently award
ed a contract of $361,772.41
to Reeves Construction.
The projected completion
date for this project is Dec.
31. LARP is a resurfacing
program initiated in 1978 to
help local governments pre
serve the integrity of their
paved roads.
“We are proud to assist
local governments through
the LARP program,”
Linnenkohl said. “A well
maintained road helps make
our transportation system
safer and more efficient.”
Each year, all Georgia
cities and counties submit a
priority list of roads or
streets in their jurisdiction
that need to be resurfaced.
The Georgia DOT reviews
each road and street submit
ted and develops a needs
assessment and cost esti
mate.
Based on the amount of
money available in LARP
each year, a final list of
roads is compiled and
