Perry police chief hopes case won’t be settled or thrown out

machines seized in a June
raid at a Perry convenience
store.

Huddled around a small
13-inch television screen in
the darkness backstage, con
testants in the Miss Warner
Robins Pageant watched the
show unfold in front of their
eyes Saturday night, waiting
for their chance to shine in
the spotlight.
Some contestants quietly
waited, while others adjust
ed spaghetti straps, bobbed
their hair to perfection or
practiced dance * routines
meticulously. As they waited
for their cues, the young
women who competed in the
2005-2006 Miss Warner
Robins Pageant experienced
a swirling range of emo
tions, anticipating the
chance to win scholarships,
gifts and a chance for

Hambrick named Houston's Teacher of Year

Susan Hambrick, a first-grade
teacher at Lake Joy Elementary
School, was named Houston County’s
2005-06 Teacher of the Year at the
school system’s opening session on
Monday.
Also honored were Teachers of the
Year from each of the system’s school,
and Employees of the Year from non
teaching departments.
Teachers of the Year included: Matt
Arthur Elementary, Susan Potts;
assistant district attorney.”
The letter comes a week
after Balli, the assistant dis
trict attorney assigned to
the video poker case, left the
DA’s office to return to pri
vate practice at the law firm
of Sams, Larkin and Huff in
Marietta.
Balli refused to comment
on the letter in a phone
interview Friday, but Perry

Potter said. “We don’t make
cases to be settled or thrown
out.”

MGTC honors new
president Ivan Allen

Middle Georgia Technical
College officially welcomed
its new president, Dr. Ivan
Allen, Friday.
“We had three good candi
dates in Atlanta,” said state
Department of Adult and
Technical Education
Commissioner Michael
Vollmer. “We ended up with
one great president here.
“Ivan is the right man at
the right place,” he added.
Allen said he would “do
what we’re called to do in
Middle Georgia, change the
lives of students day to day.”
