Stubbs honored for
4%-year career
Special to the HHJ
Friends, family, faculty and
students recently gathered
in the Westfield gymnatori
um to honor June Stubbs for
her 45-year teaching career.
Westfield hosted a retire
ment celebration for the
long-time Perry educator to
highlight her 36 years as a
Westfield faculty member.
As part of the ceremony,
Mayor Jim Worrall read a
proclamation from the city
recognizing ‘“June Stubbs
Day.”
As Westfield’s first head
master, Worrall recalled that
she was the first teacher he
hired.
Other speakers included
Dr. Michael Drake who was
headmaster at Westfield for
nine years before becom
ing the executive director
of the Georgia Independent
Schools Association.

Club was a big winner at the
49th Annual District 6920
conference held recently in
Augusta.
The local club received
the Rotary International
President Carl-Wilhelm
Stenhammar Presidential
Citation and the District
Governor’s Award of
Excellence.
Members received the
first-place award for their
efforts in international ser
vice, providing 1,000 water
pasteurization kits to be

Cara Burgess, a senior at Houston County High Schoo, was
selected as the Daughters of the American Revolution’s
Good Citizen, representing the Sukey Hart Chapter,
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
recently. She received a commemorative pin, certificate
and SSO Savings Bond as part of the recognition. In addi
tion, her essay was selected as the winner at District
level, and for that she received an additional SIOO.

first class and gave tribute
to her by singing the Irish
Blessing.

ry book and a set of luggage
for her retirement travels.
Headmaster Dr. Michael
Franklin read a letter from
Westfield alumnus Ron
Marshall who named Stubbs
as his STAR teacher in
1999.
The program ended with a
standing ovation as former
headmasters, trustees, fac
ulty and students taught by
Stubbs were recognized.

said she will miss her stu
dents but is looking forward
to fulfilling her dream of
“wanderlust.”

highest in the district.
Centerville Rotary was
chartered last year and is
the youngest club in the dis
trict.
“Out of all the awards,
being recognized as runner
up for Club of the Year was
our biggest honor,” said Club
President Bob Griggers.
