Forsyth Co. votes
on whether to ban
homemade treats
CUMMING (AP)
Students in Forsyth County
may no longer be able to
bring homemade cookies to
share with their friends in
school if the county school
board votes to ban such
goodies.
On Thursday, the school
board was expected to ban
homemade treats from school
parties. Students would still
be allowed to bring their
own brownies and cupcakes,
but any treats for the class
would have to be bought in
a store.
Forsyth County appears to
be the only metro Atlanta
school system considering a
homemade goodie ban for
now. Marietta and Fulton
County school system offi
cials said they will discuss
the idea during the next

“We do know parents like
to bring in baked goods, but
not all kids can eryoy it,”
said Fulton spokeswoman
Susan Hale, referring to
children with allergies or
other health problems.
In Forsyth County, a task
force worked on a wellness
policy, which also encour
ages students not to share.
The policy is available online
and has been presented to
groups of teachers, students
and parents.
“We feel very responsible
for the safety of our chil
dren,” food service director
Susan Woods said.
Store-bought goods pre
pared in commercial kitch

by health inspectors, unlike
