ning, Jennings, and at this post. Jennings is
the name of the new Fort erected upon the
Walker Sassee, by the Blue Fox, instead cf
that of “Georgia,” as given in my last. This
was the name of the man who was killed on
the 26th December, 'i’he Indians whom we
captured on the eleventh inst. say that we kil
led fifteen of their men on the 26th, instead of
thirteen, as stated in my last.
Since I commenced writing, (ten o clock P.
M.) by torch light on my knees, an express
which was started for Fort Jennings has re
turned, and report that they (two being in
company) saw some 40 cr 50 Indians ten
miles oIF, which caused them to return to this
place without going on. They are to be relied
upon it is said. The old Blue Fox is now ma
king preparations for pursuing them by day
light in the morning. 1 trust that we may
have our usual success. '1 he “mountain
sprouts are fighting boys right sure.” We
have only part of the first and second regt
merits now here —part with the battallion, was
sent on to Tarnpay Bay shortly after we arri
ved at Suwannee Old-fields. Nelson, (Blue
Fox) is a most untiring, energetic officer.
Yours, &c.
A VOLUNTEER.
P. S. I open to say to you, that the Indian '
taken by us on the eleventh, and lodged, to
gethcr with the women and children, with ,
Capt. Beck of Rabun County, for safe keep-j
jngat Fort Fanning, until a boat should ar- i
rive to convey them on to lam pa Bay, has ;
liroke from the guard and made his escape! |
Two muskets it is said were fired at him, as he
run, without taking effect.
