Perry Exchange
Club honors Odum
By KRISTY WARREN

The Perry Exchange Club
honored Brother Sydney
Odum Thursday at the
group’s weekly luncheon at
Priesters restaurant.
He and his wife Cloma had
lunch with the club then
Odum spoke to the group
before being surprised with
the honor of the Book of
Golden Deeds award.
The award honors a wor

his many years of service
in Houston County, as well
as being a husband, father,
grandfather and great grand
father. He is a former pastor
and current chaplain.
Odum is from Macon, but
calls Houston County home.

cializing in visitation and
family ministry.
That’s all fine and good,
but don’t ask him where his
office is.
“I don’t want a desk in
my way of helping people,”
he says.
As well as being associ
ate pastor to a large church,
he has also been chaplain
of the Houston County Fire
Department for the past 12
years where he said he is
able to minister to those who
serve others in times of loss
or grievance due to their
own unselfish work.
And, he spent 14 years
as chaplain for the newly
renamed Heart of Georgia
Hospice. In fact, he said he
still gets calls from those
family members he minis
tered to many years ago.
Odum, in turn, said he
appreciated the Perry
Exchange Club for their
deeds in the community, their
patriotism and their support
of children. The service club
aims to make America bet

of Americanism, community
service, youth activities and
its national project, the pre
vention of child abuse.
