Tigers leadoff hitter Micah lays down a bunt in the first inning in an unsuccessful
attempt to get on.

started it off with back
to-back singles. An error
enabled them to score. That
in turn also enabled William
Alexander to reach.
After a flyout, Sasser
walked and Justin Hickman
singled home Alexander.
Another error enabled Josh
Ayer to reach and Sasser to
score before Adam Thompson
doubled to plate Hickman.
Ayer then scored on a
fielder’s choice to round out
the Eagles’ scoring for the
inning.
With the score now 10-3,
however, they then added
two more in the top of the
fifth.

Chapman, then made it 12-4
heading into the sixth.
It was right about that time
Nick Shelton of Northside
fame also got his second wind
for the Tigers. Shelton, like
Sasser, pitched a complete
game, but five of his six
strikeouts came in the sixth
and seventh.
The Eagles did touch him
up for their final run, that
coming in the eighth.
Alex Blain, also of Houston
County High School fame,
doubled to start the Tigers’
eighth and eventually scored
on Portivent’s fielder’s
choice. That made it 13-5.
After silencing the Eagles
in the top of the ninth, the
Tigers then rallied in the
bottom half of the inning.
Irwin started it off with a
single. Vamadoe reached on
a popup gloved in the out
field but dropped. Simpson

then ripped a double to left
that scored Irwin.
David Chapman followed
with another double to plate
Varnadoe and Simpson and
cut it to 13-8 - still with
nobody out.
Blaine then walked and
Chapman scored on Jason
Vamadoe’s single.
Sasser, however, settled
down a little at that point,
first striking out Portivent
and then getting the sec
ond out of the inning when
Andrew Meredith flied out
to right.
Blaine was able to tag,
however, and score on the
play.
Smith then reached on
an error but the next hitter
Irwin took an “I didn’t mean
to” swing at the first pitch.
That resulted in an easy
popup to end the threat and
the game.
