Chase ends in single vehicle accident

Journal Staff Writer
On Wednesday, a deputy
conducting traffic enforce
ment along Moody Road
and observed a slow moving
vehicle in the outside lane.
It was clocked on radar at 21
mph and continued to slow
down as it approached the
marked patrol car, slowing
to 15 mph.
The deputy activated
his blue lights to make a
traffic stop and the car, a
Lincoln Towncar, sped up
and refused to stop.
It turned onto Feagin Mill
road and reached speeds of
80 mph.
The vehicle was traveling
west in the eastbound lane
and continued to acceler
ate over 100 mph and the
deputy lost sight of it as it
entered the first curve on
Feagin Mill at Cedarwood.
At Oakwood Drive, the
deputy observed the car had
run off the road and struck
a small group of trees and
a shed.
No one was found inside
the car, but the vehicle had
heavy frontend damage, the
airbags were deployed and
a bottle of Budweiser, cold
to the touch, was found on
the floor behind the driver’s
seat.
The owner of the car was
contacted and said a Hispanic
male may have been driving.
The shed was on the prop
erty of a Pinewood Drive
home and was damaged to

you continue to swear at
your spouse in front of your
child after a deputy has
asked you to stop.
On Wednesday night a dep
uty responded to a reported
stolen truck to find the driv
er returning to the incident
location where he lived with
his wife, who reported he
stole the truck.
He had reportedly left to
avoid further confrontation.
She was advised that as long
as they were married the
truck was joint property.
This information did not
sit well with the woman,
who by her demeanor and
odor of alcoholic beverage
coming from her person, was
intoxicated.
She began shouting at her
husband who began shout
ing back with both parties
using profanity.
This type of profanity con
tinued outside the residence
for 10-20 minutes and in the
presence of her 13-year-old
son.
The husband and wife had
to be separated at least four
times and were told not to
use that kind of language in
front of the child each time.
They disregarded the
instructions each time and
continued the verbal assault
on each other.

Both were eventually
arrested and taken to jail
on charges of disorderly con
duct-profanity, issued cita
tions at the jail and turned
over for processing.
Marijuana on the
Interstate
On Wednesday, a deputy
reportedly observed a SUV
tailgating an 18-wheeler and
for safety reasons executed a
traffic stop and made contact
with the driver to explain
the dangers of following too
closely.
While standing outside the
vehicle, the deputy reported
ly observed the strong odor
of burnt marijuana coming
from inside the vehicle and
asked the driver for consent
to search. The driver report
edly refused and said he did
not have any drugs in the
car.
Both the driver, Mark
Lathrop, 22, and passenger,
Lauren Myers, 21, both of
Jacksonville Beach, Fla.,
were removed from the SUV
and the woman’s purse was
checked for weapons. An
object - a small glass smok
ing pipe with marijuana res
idue, was reportedly found.
After that, a free air sniff
was conducted of the exte
rior of the SUV by canine
Esso, who reportedly posi
tively alerted to the presence
of narcotics. A search of the
vehicle reportedly found a
small quantity of marijuana

Vehicle fatality

55, of Hagan, has been
charged with vehicular
homicide, following too
closely and reckless driving
in the June 5 collision at Ga,
247 and Bear Branch road in
Kathleen.
Charges were upgraded
from serious injury by motor
vehicle upon the death of
Duane Stanley Rothe of
Perry Volunteer Outreach.
Rountree was travel
ing south on Ga. 247 in a
Kenworth tractor-trailer
when he reportedly struck
Rothe’s Chevy C 2500 in the
rear.
The pickup rotated clock
wise as it left the roadway
on the southside of the
intersection, according to
the traffic report, it started
to roll as it left the roadway
and rolled through the ditch
before coming to rest on it’s
wheels facing north on top
of the railroad tracks.
