Lands gets 1 more chance
PARIS (AP) - Tour de France cham
pion Floyd Landis, whose initial doping
tests turned up positive, gets another
chance to clear his name when a sec
ond set is expected to be released on
Saturday.
However, the 30-year-oid cyclist and
his lawyer have previously acknowl
edged that they expect the “B” sample
to show the same elevated ratio of tes
tosterone to epitestosterone found in the
“A" sample last week. Michael Henson,
a spokesman for the cyclist, confirmed
that a urine test on Landis after the tour’s
17th stage turned up an 11:1 ratio - far
above the 4:1 limit allowed. A 1:1 ratio
is average.
The “A" sample was provided July 20
by the cyclist after he zoomed his way
back into contention by winning a tough
Alpine leg with an epic ride that will long
be remembered by race fans.

Public Fishing Areas offer more than the catch
Special to the Journal
SOCIAL CIRCLE - Georgia
boasts nine excellent public
fishing areas where families
and friends can enjoy more
than just fishing.
These areas also provide
a variety of outdoor fun and
adventure.
The Georgia Department
of Natural Resources,
Wildlife Resources Division
intensively manages PFAs
for quality bass, bream,
crappie and catfish and pro
vides unique conservation
education and kids’ fishing
opportunities.
Birdwatchers, hikers and
other outdoor enthusiasts
also enjoy the diverse array
of wildlife viewing opportu
nities.
“PFAs make a great choice
for fishing with the family,
with a friend or by oneself,”
says WRD Chief of Fisheries
Management Chuck Coomer.
“These areas are located
throughout the state and are
within a reasonable drive for
most Georgia residents. All
of the areas offer much more
than fishing.”
Waters on PFAs vary from
lakes several hundred acres
in size to ponds less than one
acre - some are even desig
nated as kids’ fishing ponds
only.
Many areas have picnic
tables, nature/wildlife obser
vation trails, fish cleaning
stations and restroom facili
ties.
Some offer primitive camp
sites for those wishing to stay
overnight on the area and
many facilities are accessible
without one of its important players in
the postseason chase. Manager Terry
Francona gave no information on when
Varitek might return. Varitek hurt it round
ing second base in the second inning of
Monday night's win over Cleveland. He
was placed on the disabled list.
Sanchez undergoes surgery
NEW YORK (AP) - Mets right-hander
Duaner Sanchez underwent shoulder
surgery on his pitching arm and will
miss the rest of the season. The reliever
was riding in a cab that got into an acci
dent near the team's hotel in Florida on
Sunday night.
Barbara Iwaing wel
KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. (AP)
- Barbara’s right hind bones are healing
so well his cast could have been off by
now, if not for the laminitis in his other
hind leg. Dr. Dean Richardson said the
painful hoof disease the Kentucky Derby
winner has is preventing the cast from
being removed because the colt could
not protect himself by bearing more
weight on the left hind.
Barbara’s left hind hoof, which was
to persons with disabilities.
