doubling the number of
fully enclosed hangars at
the airport.
He said construction of
one of the hangars would
be funded this year using
the FAA grant and the bank
loan.
“We have a waiting list
to fill one hangar already,”
MacDonald said. “The
rental money will be used
to pay back the loan.”
He noted “rental revenue
funds 45 to 60 percent of
operations at the airport
now.”
The DOT grant is for con
struction of the “T” hangar
taxiway. MacDonald noted
the airport would have to
build a retention pond on
site and “may use that dirt
for this construction as
in-kind matching for the
grant.”

Duke added not all tanks
have that option, but should
not be dismissed out of hand
based only on height, he
said. He explained that by
saying a corral pole could
be put on top of the tank to
increase the height to pos
sibly meet a wirelss provid
ers needs and avoid putting
up a monopole tower.
“We (just) want to inves
tigate it before we slap up a
tower,” Duke said.
So far, there are wireless
providers also on Perry’s
Tucker Road tank and
Centerville’s Galleria tank.

Commission Chairman
Ned Sanders who also
serves on the Airport
Authority noted there are
also other projects at the
airport including lengthen
ing the runway and improv
ing a “precision” approach.
He noted one of the Special
Purpose Local Option Sales
Tax projects is the straight
ening of a road to the air
port, which is needed for
the precision approach
improvements.
MacDonald said the preci
sion approach would “make
us more popular with jet
traffic. It will make us sig
nificantly more attractive
to business fliers,” he said.
He explained that by
saying business travelers
plan weeks in advance, and
sometimes have to divert
to other airports because
of weather simply because
the airport does not have
instrument approach capa
bility.
