driving in a reckless manner

The driver refused to
comply and refused to stop,
Phelps said. “The officer
felt the person posed a seri
ous threat to other drivers,
almost causing an accident
and endangering the life of
others,” so he gave chase.
The chase continued at
speeds in excess of 100 miles
per hour, ending in Cordele.
Phelps said, with assistance
from Dooly and Crisp coun
ty sheriff’s departments and
the Georgia State Patrol.
Around mile marker 103 or
104, Phelps said, the driver
crossed the median, into the
northbound lanes of traffic
and ran up the ramp. The
car went airborne, going
about 150 feet in the air
before landing on all four
tires about 40-50 feet below

An autopsy determined
that she died from these
wounds which were caused
by some type of cutting
instrument.
Rooks said the instrument
was a knife, but would not
say if Mize brought it in or
found it in the house. “We’re
not going to release that,”
he said.

The driver suffered, minor
injuries, Phelps said, but
got out of the car and ran,
before being captured by
Crisp County deputies. “It’s
amazing what they do some

don’t get hurt.”
“If it had been a normal
law abiding person, the
car would have flipped and
rolled. I’m glad no one was

the hospital at 11:35 a.m.
Monday in reference to a
sexual assault.
Mize was picked up at
his home located at 436
Woodland Drive about an
hour and a half after the
assault, Rooks said. The
sexual assault occurred in
a residential neighborhood
in the area of Corder Road
in the home of a 27-year-old
victim. Rooks said there was
no weapon used.
There may be additional
charges once the case gets to
the Grand Jury, Rooks said,
but for now Mize remains
in the Houston County

Upon successful comple

He was told, a violation of

“We don’t like to chase,

Phelps added.

So, when Hurricane

early August, I couldn’t

I was next. Gnarly. Surfs

Wrong. Come to find out,
after a little research, I’m
not scheduled until 2011.
Wipeout.
To make matters worse,
I even have to follow
Hurricane Matthew (2010).
(He, by the way said mine
would be “just a wave,”
compared to his. I’d like
to say he’s just a big ‘ol
bag of wind but even that’s
not proven. For the record
Matthew, you could only
make it to a mere Tropical
storm in 2004.)
Then there’s Dean
(2007), Dolly (2008 ... Can
hurricanes come in pairs?),
Danny (2009. That’s my
brother’s name and let
me tell you, he was one
messy kid growing up.) and
Danielle.
Then there’s me.
And I’m gonna be big.

Then there’s panic in the
streets (where vendors set
up stalls and sell pictures
of me, flavor of the month,
Don Nuts ice cream and so
forth). Riots (where mirac

- except Matthew, who gets
his toe stepped on and it
hurts for a day).
In the end, once I’ve got
ten everyone worked into
a frenzy (and secured my
newfound sponsorship with
Lowe’s and Home Depot)
I’ll fade away.
How best to put it. Oh, I
know. It’s like when I come
home from work and tell
the family: “Put on your
best duds, we’re going out
to dinner.”
They do.
“Thanks honey! That’s

Fifteen minutes later we
pull into McDonald’s.
