Eagles’ run at title highlights ‘OS
By MATTHEW
BROWN
Journal Sports Writer
It was a year where people
couldn’t wait for that Warner
Robins-Northside game to
get here, and when it did, it
was a doozy. It was a year
where the staff of the Hous
ton Daily Journal again trav
eled to Statesboro for a Class
AAAA state championship
game, only this time it was at
GeorgiaSouthernUniversity,
and it was Northside playing
for the school’s first state
title. 2005 s football season
also saw Perry not only make
the playoffs for the third year
in a row, but gain a victory;
Westfield advanced to the
GISA semifinals after an up
and-down regular season;
and Houston County, despite
having a future Georgia Bull
dog in its midst, denied a
playoff bid by the skin of the
rulebook.

Byron Hunter, with 110

To start off what could be
called a trilogy of local cross
town rivalry football games,
defending state champions
Warner Robins kept Bryan

14-7 against Houston Coun

scored the game-winning
touchdown on a 4th-and-1

yard-line in the second half.

But something or some
one was smiling on Perry
as the Panthers took a long
road trip to Carrollton to
play Central High. The home
team missed the chip shot of
all chip shots, the PAT kick,
with 1:16 left, giving Perry a
17-16 win. But the Panthers
could relate as they too had
a missed PAT in the game, it
was another big night for Da

the season with a big 0-for.
Houston County had some
thing to do with that, beat

first time ever 33-20. Quar

Martez King scored touch

And in the ho-hum cat

somehow found a way to
beat Stockbridge 54-9.
