Senior Taylor Jones, who
will play as a wideout, is

for opportunities to make
Houston's placekicks. Mi

has also displayed a knack
for making long field-goal

into an opponent's terri

are plenty.

"We have an extremely

the toughest one since I've
been here," said Johnson.

"We had two guys returning,
but one of them is hurt," he said.
"He'll be out pretty much all sea

concern. Those linemen are strug

going to make it.
"We'll have three teams
in our region not make
it that will be as good as
anybody who gets in it. In
the last three or four years
it's been that way. We have
Warner Robins coming in
now that's just going to
make it stronger. As domi
nant as we've been, we'll
be even more dominant in
years to come.
"It's a great region. It's
like I tell our kids, one
good thing about our
schedule is when we show
up to play there will be a
lot of people there watch
ing. You better show up
to play because the other
team's going to be there.
It's not going to be a game
where it's 55-6 or 48-0. You
will have to play to win."
Both Warner Robins and
Houston County will have
on offense is to make a defense de
fend the whole field. The football
then goes into the best player's
hands, and it's his job to make
plays. The Eagles sometimes go
one-back, sometimes two-back,
and throw the ball with efficien
cy.
"You're always going to have a
surprise or two," said Nix about
who is expected to make those
big plays. "Kevyn Cooper and
Nick Bass both played a lot of
football last year. They should
step up there and do a good job.
At running back Brandon Jordan
and Tijuan Green are doing a
pretty good job. Hopefully we'll
have varied enough positions
and skills to be successful."
The offensive front last year had
the likes of Chris Rorie, Jerome

Parkview.
Houston County High
does have its share of
playoff appearances in its
history and games against
those clubs that went on
to play for the state cham
pionship. Banks isn't the
only one to wear the Bear
uniform to make an NCAA
Division I roster. Schools
like Purdue, the Air Force
Academy and even na
tional-title contender
Southern California either
have or have had Houston
County High on one of its
player's bio.
But the Bears are still
lacking what Lowndes,
Valdosta, Colquitt County
and Warner Robins have
plenty of, and that's state
championship hardware
in football. Those are the

programs Houston Coun

to change in the next cou
ple of years. Johnson said
there are more than those
kinds of big obstacles for
his program to overcome
to get to that level.
"We're very capable of
being right in the mix," he
said. "I feel this team can
be a pretty good football
team. We just can't get in
juries and we can't have
mistakes, which is what
most coaches are going to
tell you anyway. I'm talk
ing about mistakes such
as turnovers and things
like that..
"We won't be the type
of football team that can
overcome a lot of mis
takes. We need. to know
who to block, where we're
going and we need to be
fundamentally sound."
Bates and Michael Howard as se
nior starters. Developing a qual
ity line, Nix said, is a long pro
cess with no overnight answers.
He said the new players can't get
down on themselves and need to
realize they are the cornerstones
of the offensive success.
"If you have one guy, especially
an interior guy -an outside receiv
er, unless the ball's going straight
to him or the run's right behind
him, can get lost out there - those
interior guys have to make a block
every play," said Nix. "They have
to do something every snap. You
can't hide them. Those guys are
real important."
As much as Northside had big
play capabilities on offense, the
Eagle defensive unit was just
