Georgia’s newest mascot seeks a moniker
Special to the Journal
ATLANTA - With the unveiling of
Georgia’s comprehensive Utter preven
tion and abatement campaign, Litter. It
Costs You, there’s a new bird in town.
Based on the official state bird, the
brown thrasher, “The Brown Trasher”
is a colorful new mascot that represents
a great new program that’s really tak
ing flight.
“The Brown Trasher” is calhng on
youth across Georgia to apply their cre
ativity by hatching ideas to give him a
new name. Official rules and an entry
form are available onhne at litterit
costsyou.org by clicking on “Name Our

For the defense, Dean, Anthony
Harris and Rico Hendricks each had
four tackles in the first half, Prewett
had five and Kyle Griffin three.
Bears quarterback Martrez King,
who had one pass completion of 16
yards to Dodson in the first series,
walked to the bench for the second half
on crutches. Cuppett also sat out the
second half, which was mainly occu-
throughout Georgia, including children,
to educate others about the problem,
enforce litter laws and eradicate litter
from our communities. “The mascot
naming contest is a great way to get
Georgia’s youth involved in the fight
against litter,” said Beth Brown, Georgia
Department of Natural Resources
Director of Communications. “We will
continue to look for ways to involve
all members of our community, and if
you’re a kid interested in naming ‘The
Brown Trasher,’ even if you think it’s a
bird-brained idea, we want to hear your
suggestions for naming our fine feath
ered friend.”
Starting Sept. 1, all Georgia children
in grades K-5 will have the opportu
nity to name “The Brown Trasher.”

The third quarter only had 12 com
bined plays from scrimmage, one
though was an interception for Nelson.
Houston missed a field goal try in
the fourth quarter, and the Knights
scored on a 25-yard pass play with 3:47
remaining.
The Bears face another 5-A foe, the
Berkmar High Patriots of Lilburn, at
McConnell-Talbert on Friday.
Encouraging childrep to participate in
the naming contest is also an excellent
way to introduce the topic of litter and
to get the younger generation involved
with litter education and cleanup.
Lesson plans and activities also are
available online at litteritcostsyou.org.
All entries must be postmarked by
Oct. 27 and the winner will by noti
fied by Nov. 10. The winning child
and teacher/guardian will be invited to
attend a special recognition ceremony
with the “Brown Trasher.” The winner
will also be featured on the Litter. It
Costs You website.
If you have any additional questions
about the contest, contact Beth Brown
at 404-463-2092, or send an email to
