Reed admitted having the
Publix nearby “is kinda
nice,” and the Shell station,
and not having to drive up
to Watson Blvd. to go to
Lowe’s, “but now it’s getting
congested,” he said. “This
doesn’t pass the sanity test
for me.
“I think I speak for all of
us when I say it would be
real nice to have a Sam’s and
nice restaurants nearby,”
Reed said, “but we feel it
should be done in a manner
to not negatively impact a
large number of folks. Once
the parcel is annexed, we
lose all say in the matter.”
“Historically we, non-citi
zens of Warner Robins, are
not allowed a voice,” Reed
said. “There is clearly some
thing wrong when the city
can annex a parcel and com
pletely ignore the impacts
on the neighborhoods next
to the parcel in question.
The city makes the change,
collects the revenue and
the county pays for the
impacts.”
Reed said he and his neigh
bors are concerned what
they have seen in Macon is
coming here.
“One only has to look
down the street to Macon
and see what happens to
neighborhoods that mixed
with commercial centers,”
he said. “Commercial next
to residential is a disaster.
I understand the two worst
crime neighborhoods were
neighborhoods like these."
This area has produced
phenomenal growth, Reed
added, “and I think it is
important to protect this
growth through proper plan
ning and zoning. Poor plan
ning and zoning would hurt
this area and the benefits do
not outweigh the burden on
our neighborhoods.”
Reed pointed out a large
percentage of these two
neighborhoods are military
personnel who are required
to sell every few years due
to Permanent Changes of
Station and “a deprecia
tion of home values is no
way to treat the folks that
come here to serve. I think
everyone is well aware of the
importance of a city/county
to support a base to protect
it from closing.”
He also pointed to another
problem created by all the
annexations - “really bizarre
boundaries.” He cited inci
dences of a county garbage
truck on one side of a street
and a city truck on the other
side and traffic accident
involving his neighbors.
They pulled off to the
side. Warner Robins Police
responded, took the informa
tion and after asking where
the accident took place, told
them the Sheriffs Office
would have to handle it and
a deputy was called out.
that she will be working a
few days a week after taking
at least a full month off.
Golden will be succeeded
by Marsha Christie.
“It’s not really thought
out,” Reed said of the annex
ations.
“The way we’re doing it is
not really good for Warner
Robins.”
He pointed to the old part
of the city, “emptying out
of the city to the suburbs.
Why’s the city not forc
ing redevelopment of the
already commercial zones?”
