Fort Stewart
soldier killed
SAVANNAH (AP) - A Fort
Stewart soldier was killed in
a car crash that sent another
soldier to jail on suspicion of
driving under the influence,
police said Sunday.
The soldier who died was a
passenger of a Ford Mustang
driven by Kent William-East,
21, according to a Savannah-
Chatham Metropolitan
Police statement. The dead
soldier’s name was not
released pending notifica
tion of his family.
The car crashed into
an oak tree early Sunday
morning. Both East and the
other soldier were taken to
Memorial Health University
Medical Center but the pas
senger died shortly after
arriving to the hospital.
Police investigating the
crash found signs of alco
hol use and “indications of
excessive speed,” according
to the statement.
East received minor inju
ries in the crash. He was
booked into the Chatham
County Jail after he was
released from the medical
center.
