Michael Joseph Sarber,
23, of Warner Robins, pled
guilty to possession of a fire
arm by a convicted felon on
May 23 and was sentenced
last week by United States
District Court Judge Duross
Fitzpatrick to 180 months
imprisonment. He also was
initially charged with but
not convicted of aggravated
assault, burglary, possession
of a firearm during the com
mission of a crime and viola
tion of State Court proba
tion for a prior conviction
of driving with a suspended
license (all local, not federal
charges).
The Aug. 26, 2005, bur
glary of Northside Pawn
Shop was interrupted by
the shop manager respond
ing to the burglary alarm.
Upon entering, the employ
ee reportedly noticed a man
poke his head out of one of
the rooms.
Sarber stole a firearm from
the shop and confronted the
manager with the gun. No
shots were fired however by
Sarber, according to Warner
Robins Det. Karen Stokes,
but he pointed the gun at
the clerk, who responded by
firing at the intruder. Sarber
managed to get away but was
arrested by Laurens County
deputies on Sept. 1, 2005.
Stokes said the case was
prosecuted in federal courts,
where Sarber would get the
most jail time, as part of the
Project Safe Neighborhoods.
Local prosecutors regularly
meet with the United States
Attorney’s Office for the
Middle District of Georgia,
about the prosecution of
cases, said U.S. Attorney
Max Wood.
He said Project Safe
Neighborhoods targets
armed career criminals.

was awarded the Chief of
Staff of the Air Force Team
Excellence Award for 2006
for vastly reducing the time
it takes to the much-used
planes back in the hands
of the warfighters. The C-5
Galaxy is the largest cargo
plane in the American fleet
and 111 are currently in
use, including two modified
to transport space shuttle
payloads.
Gail Turner, the schedul
ing supervisor for the C-5
project depot maintenance,
said one of the things done
to speed up the process and
eliminate downtime was
“pipelining - making sure
we have the parts, resourc
es and materials before the
plane comes in.”
“I’m proud of the C-5
workforces,” Turner said
of her colleagues. She said
their next goal is 70 days,
but said 140 days is the
immediate goal.
Calvin Williams, an air
craft electrician, said the
award “took a lot of work,
I’m proud to receive it. It
feels good, it feels great to
be the best of the best.”
Williams came up with
a prototype box to prevent
damage to the wiring dur
ing maintenance, “so we
don’t have to go back and
rework it,” he said.
Darrell Harman, an air
craft sheetmetal worker,
said the floorboards were
the largest consumption
of time, in a PDM. He
helped cut flow days from
43 to 23 days and reduced
customers need for this flu
season, including the “free,
expert” advice of licensed
pharmacists.

Harman said the focus
to save time and money is
done just to get the planes
back to the warfighters
who need the aircraft back
faster.
“The C-5 team is in a
continuous pursuit of
perfection,” he said. “We
won’t ever be perfect, but
we strive to be. We’re all
focused on one vision, the
support of the warfighter.
Thompson said “the
customer, Air Mobility
Command said ‘reduce the

back.’ They plan missions
based on the number of
available aircraft.”
