HOUSTON DAILY JOURNAL
Don’t underestimate the carrot
Carrots are such a
beautiful and won
derful vegetable. I
think that they do not get
the attention they deserve.
They are good for snacks
with dips, as part of a main
meal, and in great desserts.
They even make a nice table
arrangement.
We always grew carrots
in our garden and mamma
would put them in soups
or cook them in butter and
sugar, which she called can
died carrots.
Carrots are no longer a
summertime vegetable
because they are available
year round in the stores
and are not very expensive.
They are also very good for
us.
Next time you are shop
ping, pick up a big bag of
beautiful carrots and have
some fun in the kitchen.

Taking out
guess work
I got a note from a read
er this past week who
is spending time in
Portugal. His days begin
with a single espresso, which
he tells me is as obligatory
there as it is in Italy, and
then he is tasting wines from
various Portugese regions
and finding many pleasant
surprises.
I was in

Oklahoma
this past
weekend,
tasting

More on that in the weeks
to come, but I will say that I
would have picked Portugal
had anyone given me the
choice.
