Soon, Daylight-Savings Time will
end, darkness will fall earlier, all of
which must mean the high school
football playoffs are lurking around
the corner.
But wait, there are still three
weekends left in the regular season,
including this one. ■
That is true, but for high school
teams in Houston County, these
next three weekends will say a lot
about who makes the playoffs, who
won’t make it past Nov. 10 and who
the qualifiers might be playing in
the opening round.
One team with quite a hole to

Demons, Blue Devils
each have hands full

undefeated region record
and first place all to them

Tift will want to change
all of that in Tifton Friday

was reported over and over again in
the preseason, the GISA adopted a
new system for Class AAA, which
has just two regions instead of four.
From those two regions, four teams
each will play for the state champi
onship.
In the south region, Westfield
stands at 0-3 in a tie for last place
with Sherwood Christian. The
Hornets need to run the table these
next three weeks in order to have an
outside chance at the playoffs with a
3-3 record.
Here, though, is Westfield’s big
obstacle. Just ahead of the Hornets
in the standings are Stratford and

hold a win against Westfield, which
hurts the home team in head-to
head tiebreakers. Either Stratford
or Deerfield-Windsor is going to end
up with at least three wins because
they face each other on Nov. 3.
Between second-place Pinewood
Christian (3-1) and third-place
Southland (2-1), one of those schools
is going to win at least one more as
they play each other on Nov. 10.
Westfield has both Pinewood and
Southland as upcoming opponents
at Marvin Arrington Field. Tonight,
it’s Pinewood with its 7-1 record in

was for real with wins against

streak last weekend 28-0.
Pinewood has amassed 1,988 rush

So Westfield’s best hope lies with
Southland losing three in a row.
That streak would have to start
