HOUSTON DAILY JOURNAL
First group graduates from new leadership class
Special to the Journal
Attendees at the 2006
recent Leadership Warner
Robins Class have graduated.
This was the first class
to go through the revised
Leadership Program, which,
according to a release, was
a year in the making and
incorporates the best prac
tices of leadership programs
in the country.
In addition to an overnight
retreat and ROPES course
at the Robins AFB NCO
Academy, the curriculum
took the class members to
Atlanta to visit the Georgia
Legislature in session, tours
of the Warner Robins Air
Logistics Center and diverse
parts of the community, and
meetings with key commu
nity leaders.
Using the University of
Georgia Fanning Institute
curriculum, the program
included top quality leader
ship skills instruction; fol
lowed by panel discussions
and visits to community
agencies.
The program was craft
ed by an advisory council
chaired by Zack Osborne
and assisted by Steve Smith,
Bob Wilbanks, Bill Roberts,
Scottie Neil, Frank Field
and Aura Lee Durham.
The class members were
required to accomplish
homework assignments
such a riding patrol after
dark with a police officer,
serving as a volunteer in a
social service agency, attend
ing a ribbon-cutting and
participating in one of the
Chamber s Business After
Hours events.
The class was also tasked
with accomplishing a class
project of their choosing;
something that was not
being done by any commu
nity agency, that would leave
a visible and lasting impact
on the community, and that
would be briefed at the class
graduation. The class chose
the project: helping create a
women s shelter.
The presentation at grad
uation, according to the
release, was truly spellbind
ing exceeding the expecta
tions of the course planners
and garnering accolades
of praise from the dinner
guests.
LETTER
From page 4A
political hacks all! Enough
said!
Chapter nine is titled
“National Retail Sales Tax”
and references the “Fair
Tax” for the first time on
page 209. Quote: ”... would
exempt only educational ser
vices ...”
Now, the Fair Tax proposal
does not exempt educational
services or any other busi
ness or governnient entity.
The statement is obviously
a pure political lie to con the
ignorant masses!
A hidden agenda is clearly
evident on page 208. The
panel states the Prebate,
or cash grants, would rep
resent a “new entitlement
program - by far the largest
in American history.” Note,
the repayment of excess
income taxes collected is a
“tax refund,” but a sales tax
prebate program of return
ing excess sales taxes col
lected is a “new entitlement
program ...” Another pure
political lie!
On page 213, the panel
wrote a colossal lie when
computing the total taxes
paid with the “Fair Tax”
prebate compared with the
income tax.

The members of the class
also chose one of their own
to receive the community s
first Leadership Warner
Robins Class Leadership
Award. Named after one
of the most distinguished
leaders in the community,
Dr. Dan Callahan, the class
members selected Aura Lee
Durham as the first recipi
ent.
Helen Starling, a gradu
ate of a past Leadership
Warner Robins Class, spoke
to the guests about her
efforts to create an Alumni
Association helping all the
program graduates main
tain their contacts with fel
low classmates and social
ize with others who have
undergone this life-altering
experience.
Planning for the 2007
Leadership Warner Robins
Class has been ongoing for
several months and applica
tions are pouring in from
businesses throughout the
community.
“The revamped program
has already won a well
deserved reputation as the
Finest in Middle Georgia, and
everyone is looking forward
To wit: “A typical married
couple ... of the income dis
tribution earns $39,300 per
year and would pay $5,625
dollars in federal taxes in
2006 ... Under the retail
sales tax with a Prebate,
the same family would
pay $7,997 in net federal
taxes after subtracting the
Prebate of $6,694, resulting
in a tax increase of $2,372
or 42 percent.” The example
adds the income and sales
tax together! There are no
income taxes with the Fair
Tax. Another pure political
lie!
The correct computation
is as follows: Total income of
$39,300 multiplied by the 23
percent sales tax rate equals
$9,039 sales taxes collected.
Subtract the $6,694 sales
tax Prebate in the example,
and the total sales taxes paid

is $2,345 instead of $5,625
paid under the income tax
system.
A very nice 58 percent
decrease! Not an increase!
The poor, the retired and the
middle class make out like
bandits!!
The panel never acknowl
edged, that in the aggre
gate; an item costing a dollar
under the income tax will
cost a dollar under the Fair
Tax because the 23 percent
sales tax is also the average
national cost for business
and government to collect
and administer the income
tax. Therefore, the cost for
business to produce the item
just decreased 23 percent
to 77 cents and competi
tion will reduce retail prices
accordingly.
