Houston County High Family, Career and Community Leaders of America adviser, Nelda
Clay and members Ginny Johnson and Sara smith recently attended a Students Taking
On Prevention the Violence conference held at the FCCLA Center in Covington. During
that time, chapter members worked with other chapter members across the state to
develop team building and communication skills to use with their local organizations.
The training consisted of a series of role-playing, hands-on activities and brainstorm
ing new ideas for training other FCCLA and community members. Also attending the
conference was HCHS adviser Jane Cooper.

Joanie Rainey was selected as Tucker Elementary’s
Employee of the Month for November. Rainey serves as
the Early Intervention math teacher/coach at Tucker.
In addition to attending conferences, planning lessons
for students and working collaboratively with teachers,
Rainey sponsors after school clubs and is a member
of Tucker’s after school tutoring staff. “Mrs. Rainey
finds joy in helping students grasp new math concepts
and skills,’’ said Tucker principal Kim Halstead. “She
expects no less than 100 percent from her students
each and every day - as she gives 110 percent to each
of them. ” Rainey received donated gifts from Go Fish,
Great Clips, Kroger and Seasons Spa.

The Perry High School Chapter of FCCLA recently held its annual
“Welcome to FCCLA Potluck.” In attendance were 66 of 71 members.
New members of the FCCLA were introduced and welcomed into the
chapter by current PHS FCCLA officers. In addition, they played team
building games, listened to music and, according to a release from the
organization, “enjoyed each others company. This event was an excel
lent start to the 2006-2007 school year,” the release read. “This event
proved that member support and participation would be at an all time
high.”
