Nix hopes Northside can
combat the Brunswick con
sistency with some consis
tency of its own.
Georgia high school football
teams are also getting close
to that time in the playoffs
when new GHSA regulations
concerning the quarterfinals
will take affect. It basically
means that the site for the
games in this round will be
determined by who has, or
doesn’t have, a suitable loca
tion to host a playoff game.
In the case where one team
has a higher region seed than
the other, that team is the
host, but may still have to
pick another location if its
home field does not meet the
requirements laid out by the
GHSA. If both schools have
the same seed and also have
a suitable site, a coin toss
determines where game is
played. But if similar seeded
teams both don’t have an
adequate facility, the GHSA
office picks a neutral site.
Northside must win on
Friday to be involved in
this type of decision. If the

M I think our guys got a lot
of confidence from that. I
know I did,” said Walls. “It
makes me feel like we will at
least be competitive.”
In addition to Murph, the
breakdown of the Westfield
roster is six juniors and five
sophomores. Walls won’t be
lacking for height, as seven
players are six-feet or better,
Murph being the tallest at
6-5. His biggest concern will
be finding a point guard.
“There’s going to be grow
ing pains,” said Walls. “It’s
going to be hard to make
those key plays at the end
when you’ve never done it
before. We will count on that
one senior. He’ll be a big
time player for us. We’ll give
him the ball in those key
situations, and he’s going to
make plays.
“Nash is a scorer. He’s got
a soft touch, can shoot the
ball from the perimeter. He’s
athletic enough to be aggres
sive inside and score over
people when he has a mis
match.
“We hope to get a better
effort out of him defensively,
but we need him to score a
lot of points.”
That’s one starting spot
secured. Walls said sopho
more John Peake (6-2) start
ed every game as a fresh
man, and this year he’ll be
the one asked to lock down
the other team’s top perim
eter player.
“He showed he could do
that this summer,” said
Walls. “He’s very quick, got
a good nose for the ball.
“Everything after that is

we have 12 players who are
all going to play. I think

role.”
A pair of sophomores,
John Thomas Rust and Joel

showed a 3-point shot dur

a good post defender at 6-1,
his coach said.

This • same procedure
applies for the championship
game. Other No. 1 seeds still
alive on the opposite side
of the AAAA bracket from
Northside are Rome High,
Marist and Creekside.
“One area we’re really
looking for somebody to
step up is point guard,” said
Walls. “If we can handle
pressure, then we will be in
every game.”
The Westfield region, 3-
AAA, had two teams in the
GISA semifinals last year,
and Walls said both of them

best player. Sherwood
Christian also had a young
team last year with everyone
back for this go-around.
