As 2007 nears, what bet
ter state to celebrate than
Virginia? Well, make that
the Commonwealth of
Virginia.
Named after Elizabeth I,
The Virgin Queen, Virginia
was home to George
Washington, Thomas
Jefferson and six more
presidents: James Madison,
James Monroe, William
Henry Harrison, John Tyler,
Zachary Taylor and Woodrow
Wilson.
Its first permanent English
settlement, Jamestown, was
started in 1607.
The state has a little bit
of everything - from a beau
tiful coastline on the east
to mountains on the west
- and in between you’ll
find Virginia’s famed apple
orchards.
So, from the “cradle of
democracy,” here are some
recipes that are as American
as apple pie.
