school golf conditioning
Waterford Golf Club will hold
high school golf conditioning in
January (Tuesday for Houston
County, Wednesday for Warner

Red Cross to hold
inagural bowling tourney
The Houston-Middle Georgia
Chapter of the American Red
Cross will hold its inaugural
“Roll into the New Year" Bowling
Tournament Jan. 20, 2007.
The tournament will be held at
the Gold Cup Bowling Center on
Russell Parkway and will start at
10 a.m. and last until 1 p.m.
The entry fee is $l5O for
a six-person team. It includes
pizza and soda. Registration will
be available on the day of the
tournament. Visit www.middle

sponsor the tournament.
Museum to host its
annual walk/runs
The 11th annual Museum of
Aviation Foundation marathon,
half marathon and 5K run/walk
will be held at the Museum of
Aviation Jan. 13, 2007.
All three courses are USA
Track and Field certified and all
threes are also run on Robins
Air Force Base. Runners and
walkers whose registrations are
postmarked by Jan. 5, 2007 are
guaranteed, according to the
release, a “quality colorful long
sleeve shirt on race day." A $5
surcharge applies for registra
tions after Jan. 5, 2007.
Entry fees are SBO for a relay
team, S4O for the marathon, S3O
for the half marathon and $lB for
the 5K run/walk.
A variety of trophies/awards
will be offered. The start time for
the marathon and half marathon
is 8 a.m. The 5K run/walk will
start at 8:15 a.m. Each marathon
and half-marathon runner will
receive a medallion with ribbon
as they cross the finish line.

Perry Horseshoe Pitchers’
Club holds awards banquet

The Perry Horseshoe
Pitchers’ Club held its annual
awards banquet Dec. 8 at the
Hawkinsville steak house.
The group also held officer
elections at that time.
Those voted upon were:
Tom Carter, who was re-elect
ed president of the organiza
tion, Buddy Ayer who was
re-elected publicity director
and finally, Mary Ann Gibbs,
who was elected secretary/
treasurer.
Honors handed out by the
club were as follows: Dave
McKim was singled out as the
Spring League Champion and
Ayer as the Summer League
Champion.
McKim also picked up rec

ognition for having the High
Average and the High Game
during the spring, while
Howard Kuehn had the High
Average for the summer and
Gibbs had the High Game for
the summer.
Gibbs was also recognized
for having the High Game
Over Average for the spring
and Alma McKim was recog
nized for having it during the
summer.
Gibbs picked up one more
honor on the night and that
was Club Champion.
Chuck Poole was singled
out as the Most Improved
pitcher and he also received
the Sportsmanship award.

The Next Level Power Team
competed in the WNPF Battle of
Countries meet in Atlanta Nov.
18.
The meet, according to a release,
is one of two in which world
records can be set in the WNPF.
The meet was comprised of 72 lift
ers from various regions.
The Next Level Power Team
entered the competitibn with a 3-
O record and this victory brought
their record to 4-0.
The team was sponsored by
Odorßan of Perry. The Next Level
Power Team consisted of men and
women of various ages.
They competed in the squat,
bench press, and deadlift catego
ries.
Dr. Johnny Gayton, a local oph
thalmologist and powerhouse,
weighing in at 165 pounds, fin
ished the competition with 1,102
combined pounds lifted.
Gayton said he never imagined
he would break 1,100 pounds at
his age but he set state records in
the bench press, squat, deadlift,
and power curl competitions.

and weight class. Gayton also fin
ished first overall in the master’s
division.
Rody “Rowdy” Burnam, an
engineer at Armstong in Macon
also had an impressive perfor
mance.
According to the release, he had
the crowd screaming as he slowly
lifted a 418-pound deadlift. This
gave him first place in the 165-
pound Subs class and broke state,
national and world records in his
weight class and age group.
Brian “The Diesel” Duckworth,
won the No. 1 Teen title in the
competition and also became the
No. 1 pound-for-pound teen in the
WNPF.
He broke all records in the 181
Teens Division, previously held
by his teammate, Jeff Chapman.
WNPF president, Troy Ford,
considers “The Diesel” the most
promising teen in the organiza
tion.
Tammy Sherman also took
home first place in the 132 Open
Division for women. She also set
records with all her lifts. The
meet was her first.
