Fitness Director. Qualified

Red Cross to hold
inagural bowling tourney
The Houston-Middle Georgia
Chapter of the American Red
Cross will hold its inaugural
“Roll into the New Year" Bowling
Tournament Jan. 20.
The tournament will be held at
the Gold Cup Bowling Center on
Russell Parkway and will start at
10 a.m. and last until 1 p.m.
The entry fee is $l5O for
a six-person team. It includes
pizza and soda. Registration will
be available on the day of the

Museum to host its
annual walk/runs
The 11th annual Museum of
Aviation Foundation marathon,
half marathon and 5K run/walk
will be held at the Museum of
Aviation Jan. 13. A $5 surcharge
applies for registrations after
Friday.
Entry fees are SBO for a relay
team, S4O for the marathon, S3O
for the half marathon and $lB for
the 5K run/walk. The 5K run/walk

Northside preps to host annual Eagle Classic

From in and around Atlanta,
and from the Coastal Empire, high
school wrestling teams will flock
to the 15th annual Northside High
School Eagle Classic this weekend
for two days of mat action.
In all 18 teams are going to com
pete for first- through fourth-place
team trophies. Each individual
weight class will have its own brack
eted tournament with the finals cul
minating Saturday afternoon.

Cavaliers surge past Hornets

After both Westfield and Mt. de
Sales combined for a mere 20 points
in the first half Tuesday, it was the
visiting Cavaliers finding hot shooting
hands in the second half to pull away
with a 47-40 non-region basketball
win in Perry.
The scoreboard showed a 10-10
score at halftime, and that was after
the home Hornets led by an 8-2 count
after the first quarter. Mt. de Sales did
not score from the floor in the first

get a resounding vote of con
fidence.
Ask him about Democrats
and you’ll get ... well, no
vote at all.
“They’re kind of like tat
toos,” the member of the
Georgia Chapter of the
National Vintage Racing
Association, said. “You can’t
get rid of them.”
It should come as no sur
prise then that Democrats -
that’s not to imply any or all
within the organization feel
the same way about Moore

program designed to “give

Further, the group gave
SI,OOO to Shop With A Cop,
a program, explained Moore,
overseen by police in Bibb
and Houston County, and
in which they do exactly as
its title states: They take
in money and then use it to
take “needy children” shop
ping.
“We felt it was something
we really needed to do,”
Moore said in regard to con
tributing.

Eagles, the Warner Robins High
Demons and Perry High Panthers
- are entered in the Eagle Classic.
It also includes two strong Class
AAAAA programs from the Atlanta
area: Grayson High of Loganville
and Sequoyah High of Canton. Lee
County High, which won Northside’s
area last year, is also coming to the
Classic, as is Vidalia High, Jones
County High, Baldwin High, Upson-
Lee and Macon County.
Traveling all the way from the
Atlantic Coast are Effingham County
High and Brunswick High. Carver
High is one of two Columbus schools
Westfield blocked Mt, de Sales’ first
shot attempt. But it was the defense
of the Cavaliers that turned the half
around. The Hornets were unable to
solve the visitors’ zone until Murph
caught a lob pass inside for his team’s
first basket of the period (2:23).
Mt. de Sales followed its first field
goal of the half with a second one on
its next possession to make it an even
contest at intermission.
The Hornets got the second
half off to a good start with two

Even with 18 teams, Dykes said he
expects no more than 16 wrestlers in
each weight bracket. The action will
take place at both the Northside bas
ketball gym and the Tabor Middle
School gym. Each facility will have
two mats going at a time.
The coach said the finals should
begin at approximately 3:30
Saturday afternoon. He said there
will be an exciting show with lights
and smoke effects.
He said the finals could go in order
by weight, or they could arrange

Second half
takes its toil
on Westfield

Mt. de Sales closed the
first half with a 7-0 run,
then held the Westfield Lady
Mount de Sales
girls 59.

Moreland led Westfield with
14 points. Hanna Jones was
next with eight points.
The young Lady Hornets
went back and forth with
Mt. de Sales in the first half.
Jones made a steal and went
to the foul line to put her
team up 5-2 four minutes
into the contest.
The Lady Cavaliers took
that lead away, 6-5, after a
turnover, only to see Mallory
Eubanks’ outlet pass after
a rebound to Moreland put
Westfield back on top 9-8.
Inside a minute of the
opening quarter, the visitors
scored off the offensive glass
and capitalized on two take
aways to lead 14-9 going into
the second.
Caroline Pfhol blocked
a shot leading to a base
line jumper for Darryl Ann
Thompson. Moreland scored
off her own steal, but with
two more stickbacks the
Lady Cavaliers still held on
to the lead at 20-17.
At 2:20 until halftime,
Jones stuck back a missed
free throw that tied things
up 20-20. Moreland, less
than a minute later, had the
Lady Hornets back on top
with a trey, 23-20.
