Fairgrounds to hold
horse, carriage sale
One of the largest horse-drawn
vehicle and driving horse shows
and auctions in the southeast will
be held today through Saturday at
the Georgia National Fairgrounds
in Perry. Visitors can see hun
dreds of draft horses and mules,
field teams, ponies and donkeys
as well as surreys, coaches, bug
gies and other old-time vehicles.
The show is open the public.
There will be a number of auc
tions.

Perry animal shelter
quarantined
Perry Animal Control Officer
Hannah Barrett confirmed Tuesday
that the city's animal shelter is
under quarantine and cannot take
in dogs until May 24.
The quarantine was imposed by
the Ga. Dept, of Agriculture late
‘last week, reportedly because a
puppy was found to be sick with
the Parvo virus. Barrett said that
the puppy did not die.

Ministry to hold
‘giant’ charity auction
The Heart of Georgia
Developmental Disabilities Ministry
will hold, according to a release, a
"giant" auction Friday at 5 p.m.
and Saturday at 9 p.m. at the
Watson Central Shopping Center
on Watson Blvd. in Perry.
Furniture, household items,
musical and sports equipment will
be auctioned, along with art prints
and many other items in good
condition! All proceeds go toward
building Christian group homes for
the disabled.

Perry Council does a 180
Approves place for skateboarders

Skateboarders got a break
Tuesday night when the
Perry City Council approved
the use of a flat paved area
at Calhoun Park for skate
boarding. The site was for
merly a tennis court. The
park is located at the inter
section of Tucker Road and
Keith Drive.
The vote was unanimous,
but with some require
ments. The skateboarders
may not build ramps at the
site and must wear protec
tive gear. Hours and rules
will be posted soon.
Relay headed toward $300,000 goal

The North Central Health
District and the Houston County
Health Department are asking
that residents take precautions to
avoid health problems related to
the smoky conditions caused by
the current wildfires.
Smoke from wildfires is a mix
ture of gases and fine particles
from burning trees and other
plant materials.
Smoke can hurt your eyes, irri
tate your respiratory system and
worsen chronic heart and lung
diseases.

year for participation and for fund
raising, and even before the big
event starts on Friday night, they
know they’re headed for a big suc
cess.

There was also good news
for people in the Creekwood
Area as the initial step was
taken toward providing a
gymnasium at Creekwood
Park.
A resolution was passed to
amend the Perry Community
Facilities Plan to include a
gymnasium at an estimat
ed cost of $780,000 at the
park.

office, the Houston County team,
led by Lou Ann Lucas of Perry,
has already deposited $268,000 and
expects to reach its goal of $300,000
at the Relay when all donations and
proceeds are in.
Last year the Relay raised

Kristen Brugerwood of Warner Robins and
her 1-month-old son, Kyler (pictured), who
was bom with the condition and is being
treated. The funds he has donated were from
his cash first-prize winnings in the Ego slip’s
White Rapper Show on VHI earlier his year.
